I think most of us expected these sorts of noises after the Carrol transfer, this was what everyone was worried about, more than Carroll's departure itself.

I can imagine Ashely rubbing his hands together at the thought of the cash he can now get for the likes of Enrique and Tiote. Where we go from here I don't know!! We'll also probably see how good or otherwise Pardew is when players come and go in the summer. At the moment it seems to me the optimism and momentum built up under Hughton is carrying us. It will all disappear in the summer, along with our best players. Somebody do something!!!!

I said to my Dad after the Arsenal game we may as well enjoy the likes of Tiote and Enrique for the rest of the season because they are simply too good for us. We have to be realistic here. He will not go to Villa, he will go to Liverpool or Man U and regardless of what we think they are much bigger clubs than us, they are playing in Europe and will be next season, whether it is champions league or Europa League and they are much more attractive than us. It is nothing against the club or the fans but we simply can not compete at this level in our first season back in the top flight. The only hope we have of keeping them is to sneak in to a Europa spot which 7th should be good enough for I think and tbh I don't think we have a hope in hell of doing that.

Pretty much my thoughts.

I'll be gutted when Jose leaves.

It's a fucking travesty that we don't have owners that are willing to build on that sort of talent. With Jose, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Barton and Carroll we were honestly not that far off being able to compete for a top 6 finish. Once you're there 4th is not too far off. Given our attendances and supporter base it's ridiculous that Manchester has two teams that compete on a different financial level.

There's no reason why we shouldn't be above the level of Spurs.

Honestly though if the 35m was well invested next season and Ashely was prepared to [ay decent wages we're not that far off competing with the best teams in the league. Heck on our day this season we've been able to. We're extremely thin on in certain areas, but with some wise movements in the player market, increased wages (don't even need to be at the Michael Owen level tbh) and a continued good moral in the squad anything* is possible.

Shame it's all a dream with that fucking fucking cunt in charge.

* - By that I mean top 6 pushing for top 4.

Final chance time really. The only remaining defence is that the Carroll bid was far too good to turn down and he was quite open to going to Liverpool anyway. If he doesn't invest in the right areas this summer though we know exactly what the crack is (if we don't already). The early rush to get the renewals in makes me incredibly suspiscious though.

As you know, am quite positive in my outlook so i want to believe that. However, if an offer which is too good to turn down does come in for Enrique then i guess he would be off. The only player i dont think we could replace is Tiote, so am hoping that the Carroll deal was more complicated than met the eye (agents, dubai, swedish specialists etc).

Yep, part of me puts it at some sort of battered wife/stockholm syndrome effect in that after all the shit we've copped we're still somehow hopeful that it will all change and he'll suddenly start making the right decisions.

Yup. Anybody who doesnt need to rush to renew, is mad if they do. (fully understand long timers who dont want to lose their patch).

just responding to you  I associate you more with the Newcastle Online people than here.

I gave up hope for some of them ages ago.

You don't need to hold on to any hope on my behalf. I'm quite happy being diplomatically and peacefully in both camps without any hidden agendas.

ah well. I expect they are more than happy looking at the clubs balance sheet these days, and will be even happier when Enrique is sold and we replace him with someone like another Perch. The current good spirit on the back of promotion will only last so long, then we will be struggling again, if they continue to go down this route. Believe me, I've been there.

Bless them. I wouldn't expect them to admit they are wrong or apologise to me for telling them what Ashley would do to the club.....

I'll leave you on your own now, hope you are having a good night shift.

Have a look at the hospital post btw, I would be interested in your thoughts.

I replied in that already, quite near to the start of the thread. And thank you, things are peaceful here for the moment with the potential to kick off at any time!

you're not causing trouble I hope

The summer is the key, if (big if, I accept) we spend the Carrol cash and even then Enrique won't sign a new deal, with one year left, he has to be sold, sad but true.

just like the good old days. Still, its all "business".

same rules for everybody. Run the club like Netto, and your best players want to go because they see it for what it is.

Just like your good old days.

It's all about the summer, presuming we stay up.

Players like Barton are piling the pressure on Ashley to spend big in the summer. If he doesn't, players will want out because they'll realise that we'd be going nowhere fast. They're not stupid, they'll be well aware of Ashley's failings and I'm sure they have stronger doubts over the regime than we do.

There's a fact of life that you need to get your head around. When and if certain clubs come calling you just are not going to be able to hold onto your players.

The summer will be the test, if he gets sold to someone like Villa or Everton THEN you can rightly whinge.

I think selling our top goalscorer to Liverpool for a record fee is a basis to "rightly whinge. Obviously you don't - but tell me when this last happened rather than the other way round when we ourselves bought the best players from other premiership clubs, something which the vast majority of people came to expect and something which someone your age should understand better - assuming you really did support the club in the 70's and 80's as you claim.

First bold bit -then if you think £35m for Carrol should not be taken then you are a fool, not to mention the fact that Liverpool are still seen as a "monster" club, wrongly IMO but that's life. Not having a plan B was whinge-able but the sell decision, at that price, was a no brainer.

When did that happen, when we bought the top 4-6th placed (you know the teams I mean) best players ???

Yep. When we got promoted last time we decided we were going to go for it rather than piss about with Everton/Villa style 'plans' which never work.

If we could have had Shepherd's ambition with Ashley's savvy in the transfer market we'd probably be doing very well.

You need 50% swagger and 50% miser.
