Tom 14021
I think Best gets a lot of stick however the problem is only when we are playing horrible long ball stuff - this is not a crticism of Pardew as it does work against some teams, as soon as we start playing the ball to feet it seems to work a lot better mind. The knockdowns occasionally work and Best had forged a good partnership with Ba at the start of the season however it's drifted off recently as more emphasis has been placed on the obvious major threat - Ba. He can be useful at times but if we are going to just boot balls for him to head down to nowhere he can hardly be blamed. Despite having learned the offside rule straight from Shola's book.... OTF 7787
To those acting as though the loss to Norwich was inevitable, give it a break. Our central defensive pairing could literally not have been worse IMO. Not only are neither of them central defenders, but they're both short and lightweight. An opposing stikers wet dream. So suggest that we don't have any actual central defenders in the whole club is embarrassing. Bringing a player up from the youth or reserve side who is a natural central defender would have been a far more sound option. Kadar has had injury problems, but has played a few games in the reserves so is relatively match fit. We know he is better than Perch and we know that he offers a much greater physical presence than Simpson (who's set piece marking was embarrassing). That game was immensely winnable - a relatively well organized reserve defensive unit would not have conceded four weak goals like that - Ba's two goals should have been enough to take all three points. Now, I think on the whole Pardew has exceeded my expectations. He seems to be quite a good man manager, but does some inexplicable things - like continuing to play Perch, and perhaps giving Obertan too much of a chance to settle. It was disappointing to only take a single point from those three games because it made it feel like some of our earlier results have gone to waste. On the whole though if I was offered this many points and this position on the table at the start of the season I would have taken it in a heartbeat. Gejon 2
The funny thing is "Best is shit" "Ryan Taylor is shit" "Obertan is shit" "Simpson is shit" So that's 36% of our starting 11 that are shit, but despite all this and the manager getting us to 7th place by xmas "Pardew is shit". Tom 14021
Aye People need to manage expectations a little bit more. People wouldn't have touched Pardew with a barge pole after losing Hughton and not many managers would have touched the club, the same old stupid names came up. Aeris 0
Nothing's wrong with Simpson! EDIT:Simpson IS shit defensively. Ryan Taylor contributes very well offensively but needs to be linked with a defensive winger. Best has stopped working but was doing ok in the beginning. Then we're left with Obertan..who's just pretty shit :/ Edited December 30, 2011 by Aeris
Gejon 2
At the time Pardew replacing Hughton was as ludicrous as replacing steak with spam but so far it is actually working out. He has his faults and frustrates us with some of his decisions but we are doing well and should enjoy the moment as it were. Some of the criticism has been way too over the top and by certain posters has been frankly childish/pathetic/toys out of the pram. IIRC Lake Bells Tits or whatever he is called was like that on N-O, having a proper teenager strop every time we were linked to someone he didn't like etc.. visions of those kids you see on various youtube opening a present then kicking off, rolling around the floor in floods of tears because they got an xbox 360 instead of a PS3. Lake Bells tits 1
Boils down to whether you have come to terms with the shoestring budget and repeated fuckups this regime offers and try to look for the small bright spots, or still measure everything from the bobby robson point of view - what is fitting of a club such as ours. With our start to the season - we could have built on the results and no doubt finished 5-6th with a few key january signings. Instead we will fuck it up somehow by signing absolutely fucking nobody in the january window, and finish 10th. Actually come to think about it, the more points we have come christmas, the more players mike reckon we can sell and still get away with it. Pardew came out just today and again offered his little lambs for sale at the market. Reminds me of a Patek Philipe watch commercial - You never actually own a newcastle player - you merely look after it for the next club he gets sold to
Ayatollah Hermione 14228
I don't agree that losing to WBA is a bad result. Compare the last two seasons for both sides and they're largely identical in an odd way. Both had similar finishes last season, both employed more experienced managers to make them difficult to beat and it's largely worked. Both sides have good striking options and tbh at the back, they're lacking a Coloccini but by no means terrible. I think we have a stronger first XI but they have a stronger frontline with Long and Odemwingie. Both sides are fairly evenly matched IMO.
Guest CabayeAye
You need to check yourself into the local looney bin if you think Long is even in the same postcode as Ba.
Lake Bells tits 1
aye, We have arguably - together with van persie - the best striker in the premier league. The problem is that behind him the other forwards are of bognor standard.

Kevin S. Assilleekunt 1
What Ba does with a ball, Aguero could do with an orange. What Ba does with his feet, Aguero could do with his legs amputated from the knee down.

Equally what Aguerro could do with an orange (namely eat it), Ba could do with a ball, owing to his dislocatable jaw, so it's even stevens.
