Christmas Tree 4711
Enrique is the only player who has wanted to leave the club since relegation. On the other side other players, fine players at that, such as Cabaye do want to join Newcastle. Eh? Why did Carroll hand in a transfer request then? Bassong, Owen, Martins, Beye, Duff and Geremi wanted to stay too? Not to mention that we've no real idea whether the players that have joined are "fine players" at all. sammynb 3353
I know its popular to hate Pardew but he did get West Ham to a cup final. Would do me nicely next year. West Ham United In the 2006–07 season Pardew was criticised after seeing West Ham through their worst run of defeats in over 70 years which included an exit from the UEFA Cup to Palermo in the very first round[11] and a League Cup defeat to Chesterfield.[12] West Ham's new owners stated their support for Pardew,[13] but on 11 December 2006, following a 4–0 defeat away at Bolton Wanderers the previous weekend, it was announced that Pardew had been sacked by West Ham. The club statement read "The chairman Mr Eggert Magnússon and the board have been concerned by the performances of recent weeks and feel that it is the right time to make a change in the best interests of the club."[14] [edit] Charlton Athletic Many expected Charlton to bounce back from relegation into the Premier League with signings such as Chris Iwelumo and Luke Varney in the 2007/08 season. But Charlton failed to mount a serious promotion challenge and finished the season in 11th. This put Pardew under pressure going into the 08/09 season but Charlton started the season off well with victories over Reading and Swansea. However, Charlton's form very quickly deteriorated and they were near the foot of the table after 8 games without a win. After an inept display in a 5-2 home defeat to Sheffield United hundreds of supporters remained for more than an hour to condemn their manager, chanting, "We want Pardew out" and "We want our club back" after Charlton had slipped into the Championship's bottom three.[18][19] On 22 November 2008, Pardew parted company with Charlton by mutual consent.[20] [edit] Southampton Pardew led Southampton to the 2010 Football League Trophy Final at Wembley, where they won 4–1 against Carlisle United. The win gave the club their first trophy since 1976. Five months later Pardew was dismissed by the club[22][23] amidst reports of low staff morale and conflicts between Pardew and club chairman, Nicola Cortese.[24][25] Source

I would rather see a few seasons of the likes of these and be used rather than watch dreadful football with has beens. Obviously being an optimist I naturally hope that we steadily improve as we are doing this and that brings its own rewards by way of us challenging for stuff (not top four) or makes us a good prospect for a new owner. Craig 6682
Even though its being run like a shambles, Enrique is the only player who has wanted to leave the club since relegation. On the other side other players, fine players at that, such as Cabaye do want to join Newcastle. Will he want to stick with us if he proves to be a fine player with the club having no ambition? Will the club want to stick with him when they get an offer and they can sell him with a profit? I dont disagree with that but I think the Top four is way beyond not only us, but most teams. So unless a top four club comes in, is it really a great move to move to another similar club? If and its a big if, we get a decent striker and a decent left back in, then I see no reason why we cant compete in that second tier of the premiership. 9th last season bar a collapse in the second half against West Brom. Just look how Everton have done with fuck all to spend in recent times. Not saying we will or that Pardew can do it, but not ruling it out also. I know its popular to hate Pardew but he did get West Ham to a cup final. Would do me nicely next year. It's not beyond Liverpool who I re-iterate were shitter than us not 9 months ago. Guest alex
Saying 'what if?' re the West Brom match etc. conveniently ignores every team in the league can point to a number of games they lost / drew that should've drawn / won anyway. Attaching any great significance to coming 9th would've been daft anyway though since there was virtually nothing to choose between the sides finishing 8th and 15th/16th. Guest alex
liverpool are in prime position at the minute to break into it with Arsenal in disarray and spurs failing to bring in anyone up front and looking like they'll lose modric. If they're going get into the top four, now is their best chance tbh. In any case, just because top 4 is out of our reach at present doesn't excuse completely giving up on trying to hold onto decent players, which is more or less what the club has done. It's no good pointing to offering Enrique a 'lucrative' contract either since, in the context of the situation at the club, anyone decent is probably going to look to move on at some stage. I don't think they've invested wisely at all, Jose is the best signing they've made, him and Suarez, but look at Tottenham, back to front they have better players despite £100m investment. Hand on heart different players I'd have Defoe ahead of Carroll, and we are all biased Enrique is quality but so is Assou Ekoto, they have more strength in depth, particularly across the midfield. FFS even Jenas is better than Henderson and that's a bold statement. I'll bet anyone £100 now, Liverpool won't finish in the top 4, and when I win I'll offer you a double or squits for the next season. Are people blind. Fuckin Lucas ffs, Kyrgiakos oh dear, "Caddeh" finished, Stevie G always injured, and while Downing and Adam are good players, title/top 4 material don't think so. Pacinofan 0
Konchesky was left a quivering mess due to the persecution he received there, and he's not as bad as you make out. Funny Poulsen (you can't even spell one of your own players names nobhead) was a very good player at Juventus, and also for Denmark, if they don't like you at Anfield you might as well be Martin Luther King at an EDL march. "Kenny" picked the team up yes, but you're forgetting we lost our best player, and suffered more turmoil off the pitch by sacking our manager again and as a result the patchy form that followed, not to mention injuries. You last sentence, total bollocks and to be fair a lot of your fans freely admit it, his press conference I think he mentioned Liverpool once. It's quite clear what happened in that transfer only an idiot would fail to see it. Complete and utter nonsense as usual. Konchesky is worse than I make out and Poulsen (that ok for you? I usually just refer to him as that dope) was a bench warmer for much of his time at Juve. If a player or manager isn’t liked anywhere they are made to know it. To end up a quivering wreck says more about the lack of character in the player and he really should never have become a footballer if what you say is true. (That would be a novelty) Why the fuck would you use Martin Luther King and the EDL in the same sentence? Did you just want to use his name to show you knew who he was? That would be fairly typical of you, but think on next time, it might sound better if you used the KKK in reference to MLK. We sacked a manager too and had our share of injuries, we also lost our best striker. Our problem from August to January was the manager we had, no more needs to be said for me. You obviously didn’t meet those Liverpool fans here in Liverpool, because even though we knew he had been happy at his ‘hometown’ club he made it very clear that he was made up to have made the move and to be here. If anything, since then, he looks even happier to be here, but delude yourself all you want, it’s what most fans do, instead of looking at these people who in reality are just doing a job they happen to love, and when better and bigger prospects come along 99% of footballers jump at them. Pacinofan 0
Anyone that's good enough to play for one of the 5 or 6 bigger clubs at present will be away given the opportunity, the only reason Barton wants to stay is cos his lass is geordie and wants the bairn brought up here. Still bitter though. Is Barton not with Georgia McNeil anymore?

As for the rest of it made up heresay, you don't know anything about football shown by the fact you can't even spell your own players names correctly. You are like one of those annoying Yorkshire Terriers which won't leave you alone and keeps humping away at ya leg. Bigger and better prospects are CL football, you won't have that for many years. Enrique offered new deal / But had made mind up last summer to be away. Lots of other players such as Shane etc tied up on 5 year deals. Like statistics we can all put our own spin on all of this. Tiote will be sold. Carroll has been sold. Ben Arfa will be sold. Barton hasn't been offered a contract. Nolan says the club reneged on promises made to him and was sold. Enrique has been sold. The kids on 5 year deals are on low wages. As I said, we can all put spin on it and play guessing games, which is why I was sticking to plain old simple facts. Carroll has been sold. Barton hasn't been offered a contract. Nolan says the club reneged on promises made to him and was sold. Enrique has been sold. The kids on 5 year deals are on low wages. Better? Meaningless really in the context of the discussion. Alex said the club had completely given up on trying to hold on to our better players. My list of factual contract offers shows that's not the case. As I also said, various viewpoints will put various spins on it. I think, in effect, the club has given up on holding onto our best players in the long run. That qualifies my remark better. As for facts, you don't know what contracts they were offered. If I offer someone a contract I suspect they won't accept, I'm not trying to hold onto them, quite the opposite, in 'fact'. The offer of a contract in itself does not constitute a real desire to keep a player. Trying to make out guesses made about private negotiations to be facts is a bit daft. Guest alex
liverpool are in prime position at the minute to break into it with Arsenal in disarray and spurs failing to bring in anyone up front and looking like they'll lose modric. I think as much as I occasionally wear rose tinted glasses, others wear the opposite (whatever they are). During the last season. The bits in italics are your spin / you playing guessing games though, in all fairness. The only bits of mine that aren't 'plain old simple facts' are the two that are predictions. I wasn't actually claiming something that I think will happen in the future was a fact, only extremely likely I disagree Alex. The bits in itallics as far as Im aware are all facts. Barton and his agent have both said he agreed, then changed his mind. Nolan has also said he wanted a longer contract than the two year extension on offer. Enrique was making noises about being away last year. See my previous post, CT. I don't totally disagree with what you say to be honest but the proof is in the pudding. Under Ashley the best players leave and there's no long-term squad building. That's my proof, as I see it. Delighted to be proven wrong on that but I've had him spot on so far. Anyway, if the club wanted to keep these players, they're obviously not very good at achieving their aims Edited August 12, 2011 by alex
