José Enrique

Enrique doesn't strike me as the type of fullback who is desperate to play as a winger.

Whatever Enrique is on (it won't be 50K) he deserves more to stay here. He's a genuinely world class defender who got stuck in when we were relegated and helped drag us back up. If you don't pay decent wages you just cannot compete. Fantastic players necessitate fantastic wages, not pretend 'fantastic' ones.

It's only cause the current high value market dictates it and the fact that legislation and contracts are all in playerd favour these days leaving clubs getting nervous in the last 18-20 months of any decent players contract. They don't actually 'need' it. Some very good players at Everton and Villa are on modest money IMO.

I reckon if i had an hour one on one with Jose, i could persuade him to stay. My argument would be to sign a new contract and see what progress is made this season, if he is unimpressed, hand in a transfer request and i will PR the forums for him to ensure he keeps his reputation amongst the fans. Sign it, 60k a week and play his heart out to get us to 8th. If we cant have true ambition (no one in their right mind would consider a shot at the top 5) then lets have progress.

I think no matter what wording is used though, the players know that its irrelevant how well they play if the rest of the team arent upto scratch (thats not me dissing the new lads either). Im sure regardless of money thoughts, the likes of Enrique wont want the dubious pleasure of relegation twice.

Id also think that your average player couldnt really give a monkeys how they are viewed by an ex-clubs fans so hes not going to care about your PR exercise.

And to be fair, Id automatically go against him if you came on with the PR ^_^

But where is he realistically expecting to go the twit?

Only arsenal would be a real step up.

Liv, Spurs and Everton will all be fighting for 5-7. And us 7-10.

If Spurs lose a couple of key players in the window and they still might it is going to be a much tougher year for them.

Nobody in Spain or Italy will better his wages outside the top 2/3 and they don't need him.

Player decision-making is based on 3 factors, money, trophies and public image. There are countless examples (Rooney, Henry etc) of players making decisions based primarily on how fans would perceive them. In fact every single utterance of every single player who has ever moved clubs is driven by PR, its virtually ubiquitous.

Are you predicting relegation? I hope so as you've been about as far wrong on these matters as its possible to be in the last 2 seasons. I wouldnt be relying on you to get him to stay anyway :)

I would predict a poor season for Liverpool, but I can't see anyone outside the top 6 being less poor.

Can't stand Dalglish and think his buys have been way overvalued across the board.

Not a fan of Dalglish either and would agree with the buys of his but there's little to choose between them, Spurs and Arsenal imo.

If I were in Enriques camp then I wouldnt be too worried. He is holding all the aces. He can stay and everyday he does then his pay out gets bigger whilst Newcastles pay out gets reduced. As soon as he gets to January he will have every top club after him. A top left back available on the cheap.

I hope he signs however I stand by my prediction he will leave!

The only reason he'll stay is if he doesn't get a decent club in for him. Unless he can get his head straight I think I'd rather he went now so weve time to get a decent replacement in. In fact we should have someone lined up already cos it's pretty obvious he's wanted away for some time now.

Was not the same player after rumours of Liverpools interest were reported last season.

That's a misnomer, Everton in particular pay good wages to their key players, it's how they've managed to keep them. They know it's better value overall to keep known quality than it is to chance it on the market. Not very exciting for their fans, but that stability in their side has been key to their relative consistency in the league.

Earlier tonight, he who shall not be named tweeted that the deal had been done and that Jose was now on his way to Liverpool for a deal that could be worth upto 310 million with a 17 year old coming to our development squad in return. (jj hooper / striker)

Other Journos are now tweeting the deal appears to be done so felt ok to post.

Now lets just get the left back in who has hopefully being tapped up, ready to go, already.
