Guest alex
This exaggeration lark is getting contagious like. He'll have been on £100k a week when we signed him up as 16 year old before long The game as it is nowadays is a joke. Players more or less do what they like...Cloughie will be turning in his grave. Back in the day Ricky would have been kicked to the curb and playing for the reserves for 3 months. I was making the point he wasn't 19 when we signed him. Fair enough, he was only 21 like but that's quite a range all the same.
ChezGiven 0
has he not said it's not about the money already anyways?Wages are irrelevant tbh he prob doesn't wanna sign a contract at a club with no ambition no matter what's on the table. So why did he say he wanted to end his career with us when we were in the Championship? Does he think Championship teams are just one season away from breaking the top 6 in the Premiership? Does anyone with more than 3 brain cells actually think this? Left backs are historically self loving - problematic - frustrated they ain't left wingers - delusionary gimps. You two buying in to fact it's all down to Enrique? Have a quiet word if you are. You talk about the club being badly run, unstable and lacking ambition the whole time he has been as a major factor in his recent attitude here but ignore the fact that he proclaimed his undying loyalty to the club when it was in the midst of its lowest point in recent history. I take on board what you've said but these points dont add up. I also think he has offended the players who have come in.

I think Stevie Ross probably makes a good point too, as I said. You'd have to wonder why he's changed his mind and what has happened at the club since then. In any case he's in a much better position to assess what is going on behind the scenes than we are. If you're going to accept he was happy in the Championship (I happen to think he was) then you have to also accept he isn't now so there must be a reason for that change. Maybe he's just a money-grabbing bastard but (even if he is) I'd rather have 11 like him than 'good, honest, lads' like Simpson, Perch and Leon fucking Best. All academic like as I think they've well and truly missed the boat with regards to getting him to sign an extension. Regardless of that though, times change, that statement was made (I believe) under Hughton and as someone said earlier maybe hes not happy with Pardew. PaddockLad 17089
Enrique doesn't strike me as the type of fullback who is desperate to play as a winger. Whatever Enrique is on (it won't be 50K) he deserves more to stay here. He's a genuinely world class defender who got stuck in when we were relegated and helped drag us back up. If you don't pay decent wages you just cannot compete. Fantastic players necessitate fantastic wages, not pretend 'fantastic' ones. If he was world class I think Barca or Real would be in for him. Cant picture the Real left back but for me Jose's not in Abidal's class. And thats why hes still here. At the moment. Now doing at Liverpool as it looks like Dalglish has had other priorities (what happened to 'building from the back' btw?) and now has to sell to buy. So that leaves which clubs willing to pay an half decent left back 50k a week? And none of the promotion side who stayed after relegation were completely motivated by 'righting a wrong'....a lot of them wouldve struggled to get the same contracts elsewhere. But he is the sort of player we should be hanging on to if we want to progress. Sad really. :-(

Depends on your classification of World Class, for me I don't think Enrique would be out of place in any national side. He's not the perfect player, and there's certainly avenue for improvement. If he goes to a better side I think he will improve provided his hamstring issues don't begin to plague him. He's at the age now where he should be getting a lot smarter as a player, playing with generally smarter* players will speed that along. * - Football smarts. If it was the case what would people think of that? Try to justify it from any perspective except the owner (the justification for the owner is obvious). If it's just an extra £10k a week then giving Enrique that would be a saving in relation to buying anything like a decent alternative plus their wages (not to mention any agents' fees etc. ). Would Enrique would go for that or does he has his heart set on leaving now anyway? We've been linked with Wayne Bridge today btw. That could be bullshit like but it would be a ludicrous option if a little bit more cash would see Enrique sign a new deal.
Guest alex
Jose's comments would undermine us if our owner and chairman had not already undermined us to the Earth's core. Flippant though that sounds, it's ironic he's accused of that when the very comments he is making are about how they have undermined the club. Ashley should pursue a similar policy with Llambias. He'd make a fortune.

He personally was undermined by the undermining of the club but there is no need to undermine it further just because he feels undermined by the undermining.
