The entire 15 years is how you have to look at it, you can't cherry pick, its like saying Brian Clough was a shit manager because Forest were relegated in his last season, unless of course you have absolutely no idea of the state the club was in for over the best part of 3 decades prior to when they took it over. Nobody denies that a revamp of the team was necessary after Souness and nobody denies he was the wrong appointment, but you also suffer the delusion that many others have, and had in that you think the Halls and Shepherd are the only owners that ever made a bad managerial appointment - give yourself a shake man.

Nobody is saying we need a sheik to avoid selling our best players to clubs like Liverpool [not happened since 1986, co-incidence that you are blind to ?] and we certainly don't need a sheik to avoid competing at the levels of clubs like Bolton, Stoke etc and selling our best players to the likes of Villa and even worse, Wigan.

You need to look at yourself. You may think NUFC are a small club, but some of us realise differently.

Mike Ashley is destroying the fanbase and revenues he inherited at this football club, built up by the Halls and Shepherd over 15 years from nothing. That is business, nothing you can say can excuse him for it, and more fool you if you have such an irrational hatred for the owners who attracted 30,000 supporters and gave you the best 15 years of the last 50 that you can't see it.

I do agree with you that there is more important things to life than football, you tend to get that way when you reach your 50's don't you ? What a pity that you - like me - will look back on those 15 years as being the highlight of your football supporting life. At least one of us recognises it and appreciates it.

Leazes man, we will never agree, just read the link man !!!

In closing (I'm done with this - and before you say it I am not surrendering or whatever, you are not going to see my point of view, and I'm never going to see yours)

I have never said we are a small club, but we are not as big as some seem to think, we could have been but we blew it.

The Halls and FFS gave us the best years of football supporting I have thus far known, but also some of the worst, yes they took on a broken club and rebuilt it, made a fortune but critically then left it badly broken again.

FCB is a total twat, but more fool him, it's cost him a fortune, I would suspect he'll never get out of it what the previous regime did.

I really don't care enough to engage in this back and forth forever, just do yourself a favour and read the link.

Spurs have broken in to the top four without an arab or russian.

By selling star players and re-investing?

There's a big difference between selling Berbatov and getting players like Van Der Vaart as opposed to selling Carroll and being told that life after is in the form of best and lovenkraands.

I don't have much confidence that we are going to see an Andy Cole for Les Ferdinand deal going down here, do you? More chance of the likes of carlton fucking cole arriving

Another Tiote and Ben Arfa would be canny though, yes?

Because we never sold Shearer the local lad that means that we should be able to keep any top player for any period of time that we choose.

I meant we bought him from Blackburn you thick cunt.

So you were talking about something completely different to everyone else then? :D

Shock!

if you can't see the connection, your problem.

I thought you were leaving this board :icon_lol:

This thread will make you look an even bigger idiot in 12 months time.

Your predictions hold no weight after happy new year :icon_lol: Connection between signing a player and clubs not being able to keep players forever. Sorry, I don't see the connection. Instead of telling me I should see it, why not just explain it?

We won't match those under your man. Thats my prediction.

The year is young, and still happy for you anyway because he's still here and you didn't resign from this board because of your last prediction as you said you would :icon_lol:

I don't care if we "agree" - because I've posted facts, not opinions. And what I say, will be correct in time.

Edit. by the way, the Halls and Shepherd certainly didn't give us "some of the worst" years, nowhere near. Nobody, nobody who saw this club prior to 1992 could possibly make such a claim.

I don't know where Ryder is getting the idea that Enrique is 'moping' or 'whining.' I translated everything he said. When the interviewer asked him about Liverpool, he said it's a top club and it's an honour to be linked with them (I think he might've actually said he was flattered.) He didn't court their fans or start trotting out cliches about how good their fans are, etc etc.

Looks like pre-emptive PR from Ashley's Ronnie mouthpiece.

Shit, I enjoyed going on the League Cup run and final in 76, for the semi stood in the Gallowgate with one of my dad's work mates who was a broad cockney spurs fan praying he wouldn't open his mouth. Wasn't at the FA cup final in 74 but loved the semi, I even thoroughly had a good time proceeding through and winning the Texaco Cup against Burnley, gave myself a treat that night, bought tickets in the main stand, I really enjoyed the fairs cup in 69 (on the radio sadly, I was only 13 though and watched N. Shields mostly then), but I guess you're right Souness (as an example) was much better than any of that.

When I was a young'un in 70's/80's the "big picture" was irrelevant, it was all about the "event" of going to the game on a Saturday, boardroom finance, we just never discussed or even thought of, doubt you did either.

P.S. read the link, that's relevant unbiased facts.

Texaco Cup ? You're fucking kidding right ?

Of course, you set your sights low and don't realise how big the club should be.

From the age of about 14 ie when we won the Fairs Cup, i realised how big Newcatle United are, and saw they never pushed on from it because they had shit directors who would NEVER show the ambition befitting the club. It is EASY now to spot such limitations in a football club and its outlook.

However much of a wanker Souness is, we still played in europe albeit it courtesy of the previous manager and his inheritance [actually you could say that Mike Ashley is still riding on the back of his inheritance too as the full impact of what he has done and is doing is nowhere near being felt fully yet] and many people still backed him in his sales of the main 2 players he got rid of for peanunts. If you think this is anywhere near the years after Gordon Lee of McGarry and what he left behind, the years after we lost Beardsley, Gazza and Waddle and blowing the good work Cox did, then leading to the last season of Smith and then Ardiles, you are out of your mind.

Newcastle United full-back Jose Enrique has moved to clarify comments that were attributed to him in various media outlets on Thursday and Friday.

The Valencia-born ace spoke to nufc.co.uk after seeing his words taken "out of context" following an interview with a Spanish newspaper.

He said: "I had a good chat with a Spanish journalist about how things were going this season. I told him we're having a good season and how I've been enjoying the games, playing well and focussing on the good year I am having at the club. We are ambitious and, like all the players here, we want to play at the highest level we can.

"Newcastle is a great club with some excellent players and I hope we can kick on and continue to progress.

"From this interview, two or three lines have now appeared in the English papers, and because they are totally out of context with the rest of the interview, I am very disappointed at being portrayed in this manner."

Enrique added: "The position with my contract has always been clear and both myself and the manager have talked about it openly.

"I would like to ensure that we have secured Premier League status for next season before we discuss a new deal. It is natural for me, as it is for every player, to want to play at the top level."

Surprised they didnt clarify that he did actually mean what he said and NUFC really really hope they dont get an offer big enough that they have to let him go. Saying that, it's going to be a tough summer holding on to Barton, Tiote and Enrique, but seriously, NUFC would like it to be known none of them are for sale. Unless we receive a silly offer.

My mind won't be at rest unless I get firm assurances from Pardew that they are not for sale.

I assume you forgot your wink. Here, have mine :D
