I think we'll definitely see some different formations and lineup, with different gameplans for different opposition and situations, which will be something entirely new at NUFC. But i'd have no idea what lne up he'll be looking at, and it'll be a few weeks before he probalby has most of them fit to pick from with all the bastard injuries we have!

 

One thing with signings like Barton and Smith we are moving away from being a team of shrinking violets/complete tarts who are too nice and jut roll over for teams, and looking to players who won't stand for that. Even someone like Viduka who isn't particularly a hardnut but he does have plenty of weight to chuck about!

Not only the physical stuff, but also maybe a bit more passion.

 

I can't remember the number of times under Robson we went a goal down and came back to win or were having a rough time but kept going to get something, we always seemed to have that belief.

 

Last season (and the season before) a lot of times it just seemed like few could be bothered.

As much as nobody on here rates him, I think Carr is going to be our right back this season. He's started most of our pre-season games there and was pretty good against Celtic and Juve IMO.

 

He isn't the long term answer, but he's the only natural RB at the club and Solano and Geremi haven't been even tried there in our friendly games so far.

 

In regards formations, Owen is fairly undroppable, if fit, but I don't see how Fat Sam can fit him into a 4-3-3.

This team would beat Bolton and when everyone is fit I'd expect us to be fielding Enrique at LB, Taylor or Cacapa at right back with the other playing CB, and Barton in the middle with Geremi. We gonna be seeing a whole lot of rotation this season though which I think will be healthy for competition and for the players in terms of being able to rest up whilst adapting to Allardyce's rigorous training regimes and. We haven't had the luxury of being able to rest players these past few years! no wonder we had all those injuries.

aye. it's funny what difference a week and 3 or 4 signings can do for your outlook. i'm actually not dreading the start of the season all of a sudden.
