Craig 6702
Because illegally downloading music is such a widespread thing that it's a socially acceptable law to break, so therefore I DO find it hard to believe that a small section of 'up their own arsers' opt to pay for MP3s that are often readily available for nothing. Ridiculous. Being a broke student I do often illegally download music if it's single tracks or albums if it's by a big artist but if it's a smaller, less well known artist then I'll pay for it. It's double standards I know and if it means I'm 'up my own arse' then so be it. I wasn't referring to you specifically, because you have explained that the music you want isn't available from other sources. More of a generalization of people who pay to download all of their tunes. So what is wrong with people paying for things they're supposed to pay for? I don't think it's socially accepted that music nowadays is totally free. Really?? Well it is. Are you serious? Erm....... it most definitely is not! I hope none of my bosses find out about my illegal downloading to my MP3 player! I'd be sacked instantly! We must alert the church elders!
ewerk 31600
But regarding MP3s, what's the difference between a purchased one and a free one? Nothing. Uh apart from the fact that the artist gets paid for the purchased copy? That's a pretty big difference.
Gemmill 47227
I used to take the piss on here a canny bit and have a go at the music thieves, but there's been a bit of an overreaction in this thread to James. Mind he hasn't exactly helped himself with the way he's posted, but I don't think illegal music downloads are an indication of all that's wrong with society or owt. Incidentally, I have been known to download stuff, although it's mostly TV programmes. I've used alltunes though, and it's quality.

Guest alex
I can't say it bothers me too much either. If it were to get to the stage in the future where all music is downloaded it could spell disaster for the likes of Asprilla's Foreskin though

I wouldn't get high and mighty about it either but I think it's the fact he's taking the piss out of people who are willing to pay and labelling them as 'squares' that's the problem. Personally I think music's gone down so much in price now you may as well just buy it anyway.

It's up to you if you worry about it and I'm guessing none of us would lose too much sleep but I think 'morally' you probably owe U2 the money if you want to get hold of their music. ewerk 31600
And making a person richer than me even more richer than me is supposed to be some kind of selling point for me to start buying MP3s? So you reckon you're doing your own wee bit to ensure a fairer redistribution of wealth? Ideally I should pay for all albums but I don't, as I said earlier I'll pay for albums of artists who aren't as successful as the likes of U2 because without my support of the support of others they'll not sell as many records or make enough money to satisfy their record company. For every Bono out there there are 1000's of struggling artists and if I like them I'll give them the 8 quid or whatever it is for their album, it's hardly overpriced for the use I'll get out of it. Take petrol, for example. We're getting fucked on petrol. If an illegal petrol pump was available, giving you free petrol, and it was totally undetectable that you'd used it. How many of you would still pay for petrol? Would your conscience eat at you that the multi billion dollar oil industry and our govt was losing your 95 pence per litre?
