wykikitoon 20945
Hi Guys As some of you know I have handed in my notice at my current employer and I am off to pastures new. I have been with the company since they took my on as a Junior. I served what is like an old apprentiship. They have paid for me to go through College and University and have trained me up. Which I am very greatful for. I am leaving for a couple of reasons. 1) To get more money. 2) I am still looked upon as a junior by certain people even though I have proven I can do the job, and we have a junior to do some of the tasks. A lad joined our company a few months ago, his work is good and knowledge of the job ok, but some of his techncial knowledge isnt great. He joined our company for the same reason I am leaving mine, for the two reasons above. I am on less money than him and I have more qualifications and more experiance (it shows too!) I have heard many stories similar to this. So why do compnies seem to restrict the natural progression of a junior that they have invested in so much? If I had been paid more and allowed to work for what I studied hard for then I would be still happy in my job? Is it just my industry that I am in? Gemmill 46231
There's a lad at my company in a similar position. The job he was hired for was not what the company class as "a graduate job". But the lad in question IS a graduate. However, when he's tried to apply internally for other jobs, he's been knocked back with "we're probably gonna get a graduate in to do that." Which leaves him fucking seething because he went to uni same as the person they're going to hire, but simply because he wasn't hired into a graduate job, they have this blind spot about him not being up to the task. Sounds like you're in a similar position - they hired you as an apprentice, and some people in the company can't get past the fact that you're no longer really the apprentice. In a situation like that, I would say the best thing to do is to move on, like you're doing - fill your CV with all the experience you have, and your next employer will see you for what you are and what you can offer to the company, rather than what you were when they first took you on. Good luck in the new job.
geordieshandy 0
I've a mate who had a similar situation at his old employers, constantly missed out on raises, promotions etc. Eventually a recruitment firm offered him an interview at a new company, massive raise, only for the new company to mess him about and eventually not offer him a firm position past probation. He's actually now looking at going back to his old employers.
wykikitoon 20945
I just dont understand it. Why, when they have put a lot of money and time into my development just seem to turn a blind eye. The company where I am going is a lot smaller only 30 people working there, whereas where I am now over 9000 people world wide. Yet they have offerd me £8k more and I am a senior. I am lucky where I sent my CV out without a recruitemnt agent and they have given me a "signing" on bonus too.
