I just don't think we can afford to lose another player when we are already looking at a pretty thin squad and having trouble getting players in.

 

For all the problems that come with Dyer, he does offer pace, and an attacking threat that is different from the other players in midfield and having seemingly sorted out his injury problems i'd be fucking pissed off if he ended up playing a whole season for one of the cockney teams.

THE younger sister of England soccer star Kieron Dyer has been arrested on suspicion of intending to supply cocaine.

 

Kirsha Dyer, 18, was held along with an 18-year-old youth who was in her car.

 

Police found what was believed to be 13gms of Class A drug cocaine worth £400.

 

The pair, who both live in Ipswich, were quizzed at the town’s police station and held overnight before being released on Thursday.

 

It is believed police swooped on Kirsha’s car after a tip-off from a member of the public.

 

Newcastle United and England midfielder Kieron, 27, who began his career at Ipswich Town, has always been close to his sister.

 

A Suffolk Police spokesman said: “An 18-year-old woman from Ipswich was arrested on suspicion of possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply. She has been released on police bail and is due to appear back at Ipswich police station on May 25.”

 

Pacy Kieron earns £80,000 a week at Newcastle.

why exactly? they're completely different types of player. smith is a slow and average in midfield and we have enough strikers. it wouldn't exactly be a like-for-like swap.

 

if dyer is to go, i think we need to replace him with a pacey attacking player who can run with the ball, take on and beat a man and play in at least two positions - because that's what we'll be losing. those kind of players don't grow on trees.

I don't think Dyers heart has been in it for quite some time, yes he can be a very good player on his day, but he wants to play centrally in midfield and we have to make too many adjustments to make up for his weaknesses.

His best position is on the right side of the midfield but he doesn't like playing there, he will need replacing but its not as if he has played every game for the last 4 years! best for all concerned if he moved on after all he is 28 with along personal and injury record.

Smith is a better footballer imo - and has an agressive streak I like - although I do take your "Like for like" point I just think if we lose a decent player and one is readily available then its an "easy" option (though for a quality player).

I think Dyer has realised he wont be that far up the pecking order. I think Solano/Milner will be first choice on the right. Butt/Emre/Barton will be 2 from 3 and he wont get a sniff up front with Owen/Vid/Oba. I reckon we need a solid,big centre mid player and a winger who can play either flank. Gravesson or Bouba-diop (if we cant attract any big names) but I would be tempted to break the bank for SWP, Ian Wright said on talk sport he would have fancied a return to city if Sven wasnt there so there may be a slight chance to land him.

AN ‘emotional’ Sam Allardyce last night admitted that Kieron Dyer’s eight-year career at Newcastle appears to be approaching an end as he detailed the latest ‘crushing blow’ to beset his Premier League plans.

 

But the United boss has warned the player’s suitors that Dyer will not be allowed to leave on the cheap – insisting that unless his valuation is met, the England international will start the forthcoming campaign in the North-East.

 

The club’s longest-serving outfield player is attracting interest from West Ham and, although his manager is reluctant to sanction his departure, Allardyce last night conceded he might have no choice following a heart-to-heart with the unsettled 28-year-old.

 

The former Bolton boss last night attributed Dyer’s desire to leave the club to unspecified ‘family reasons.’ And although sympathetic to the player’s plight, a coach fast running out of options in midfield acknowledged that the situation has left him with considerable problems.

 

“I think there’s a possibility he might leave due to family reasons,” explained a manager who will be in the home dug-out for the first time this evening when his side continue their pre-season preparations against Celtic.

 

 

“It’s obviously a shame but, when something like this crops up, it might be that the only way to resolve the issue is to allow him to leave. That would be a disappointment to me.”

 

Dyer is believed to have expressed a determination to join a club closer to his two young children, who live in Ipswich. A transfer to West Ham would be ideal and although Allardyce last night insisted no offers have been tabled, The Journal understands that contact has been made and a deal discussed.

 

“I can understand it,” said the United boss, who initiated talks with the midfielder at the weekend having been made aware that a problem had arisen. “While it’s not good for us, it’s something that you have to be sympathetic to. These problems override everything and he has to resolve them.”

 

Allardyce will not let Dyer’s suitors take advantage of an unfortunate situation, and a manager who will demand at least £6m to do business last night acknowledged that although it would be awkward, there still is a chance the player might have to remain on Tyneside.

 

“If and when the offers come in, we will have to consider them,” he said. “If it’s right for him and it’s right for us, it might progress. But if we don’t get that, he will remain here and we will attempt to resolve the situation as best we can.

 

“Just because there is this situation, we won’t let other clubs take advantage of it by thinking they can pinch him on the cheap.”

 

Although West Ham lead the chase, other clubs are monitoring the situation. Tottenham have a long-held interest in Dyer, whilst Manchester City’s ambitions are also known to officials at St James’s Park – although a move to Eastlands will hold little appeal to a player keen to head south this summer, despite Sven-Goran Eriksson’s determination to renew acquaintances with his former England charge.

 

“In today’s market, I think there will be quite a few clubs interested in taking a player of his quality,” said Allardyce. “He’s 28. He has 10 or 11 years experience in the Premier League and he’s a current England international. There are not many of them around, are there?”

 

Dyer has two seasons remaining on his lucrative contract at St James’s Park and should a move fail to materialise before the August 31 transfer deadline, he will have little choice but to continue his career in a black-and-white shirt. Such a situation would be far from ideal.

 

“He might have to do it because we have his contract and we pay him very well to perform to the best of his ability under that contract,” said Allardyce, who will be keen to resolve the situation as soon as possible in order to give himself the best possible chance to recruit a suitable replacement. “I know the circumstances would be difficult, but playing football is what his life’s all about and he still has to be dedicated to what he loves to do.”

 

It remains to be seen whether Dyer features against Celtic this evening, but with Emre having travelled to see a German specialist about a long-standing ankle complaint, a manager who lost Joey Barton to a fractured foot at the weekend might need all the midfielders he can get.

 

“I feel like a yo-yo,” added Allardyce. “One minute you’re up here, the next you’re down there. It’s a very emotional period for a manager. Just when you think you’re getting somewhere and you’re upbeat, a crushing blow hits you that you didn’t expect. First it was Joey Barton. Now it’s Kieron Dyer.”

I'd be happy enough with Dyer out for £6m. I hope we're not spoofing about players going for cheap, like Souness quoting £25m for Jenas.

 

SWP would be a good replacement, as an out and out winger, reducing Milner to a lesser role, where he can play on either wing. We'll really need to replace Dyer's pace.

 

Also need a creative player in the middle.

I read the initial article and nothing else. I am possibly going to appear cold-hearted (as I don't know the facts), but my knee-jerk reaction is that it is just an excuse to leave. If I was correct, I wouldn't hesitate to use the word TWAT.

Dyer's never had much commitment to anything frankly (but letting everyone down).

 

 

Maybe he does have "genuine" reasons for this episode, who knows, but it doesn't make the above any less true even if that is the case.

 

It's just so poetic and fitting for the Dyer Saga (in a hideous way) that he would go in a way that will leave us short of quality, pace, bodies and likely cash (for him).
