Speaking of shit places...has anyone heard from Patrokles or has he been flooded?

He lives in Gloucester but he's at some music festival in France with his lass. I haven't heard from him since he went though so I don't know if his folk's place has been affected.

Durham and Northumberland, whilst having some lovely scenery, are absolutely littered with complete shit holes. Especially Durham.

The only shitholes I can think of in Northumberland, are Blyth, Bedlington and Ashington. That South East Northumberland belt, it's no wonder there's so many hardcore drug abusers to ease the pain, it's basically an extension of North Tyneside. Durham - I find most places where people have hints of mackem accents are shit. Hartlepool has really smartened itself up though, and Durham City is nice.

Northumberland is the most beautiful county in England for my money. Lovely places like Hexham, Wooler, Bamburgh, Seahooses, Rothbury, Amble, Wylam, Corbridge - I wouldn't swap it.

As for Liverpool being a nice place, the last time I was there was 1997, it was shit then, the city centre seemed utterly run down, an associate of mine who was at Uni confirmed that not a great deal has changed since to me,, but they're getting £1b of investment. The reason they won the City of Culture thing clearly is they needed it a hell of a lot more than we did.

Nottingham's a great city - bit ugly though.

Right then:

Herne Bay

Margate

Ramsgate

Sittingbourne

Sheerness

Ashford

Faversham

Folkestone

Dover

Rainham

Rochester

Gillingham

Chatham

Strood

Dymchurch

I love living in the wonderful Garden of England.

 I was thinking about defending Kent but all those places are shit! Ashford's not too bad though, came 4th best place to live in Location, Location, Location once! Canterbury's quite nice, Maidstone's ok and there's a lot of nice countryside out there as well, just not much by the way of cities.

Aye, you're probably right. Not sure about it being the most beautiful but it's a lovely county. Most of the old mining towns and villages are very clever though.

Agreed that the 'City of Culture' thing is a mask for major investment and they definitely needed it more than we did.

It has its bad parts, as does any city - I don't suppose the scousers think much of walking through Elswick but when we talk about Newcastle, we focus on Jesmond, Gosforth, Ponteland, Grey Street etc.
