The best 80s movies

Hmmmmm.

Now I come to think of it, the 80s wasn't a brilliant decade for films, probably better than the 70s though. Nothing springs to mind.

I reckon the 70's was a great era for films tbh. The 80's did produce some classics. As I've mentioned with music though, it's a bit of a strange way to group things as the opposite ends of decades don't have a lot in common.

Anyway, Platoon and Full Metal Jacket spring to mind, along with things like Raiders of the Lost Ark. Too many to mention though probably. It was a good decade for good daft films like Back to the Future and stuff like that (probably an age thing too).

Spot on with classifying things by decade, its entirley arbritrary and doesn't really capture the 'zeitgest' necessarily [/pretentious]

I'm curious about why you think the 70s was a good decade. I can think of some class individual films, but in general it was an era where the cinema was in decline, for whatever reason. It wasn't until the late 80s/early 90s films started getting back to their hey day imo.

I suppose I was just thinking about films I love really, I'm certainly no expert but both the Godfather films, Chinatown, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining (seeing a pattern?), Apocalypse Now, Alien, The Deer Hunter, Dog Day Afternoon and loads of others I've probably forgotten are the sorts of things I was thinking of.

Fair enough. Plus Jaws and Star Wars.

Aye, two great films. I think the early to mid-70's films had a certain something about them that I like. Talking about Hollywood films here mainly. A grittiness perhaps. Not sure I'm exaplining myself very well. Forgot about The Sting and Serpico too. O/T like, soz Ritchie.

Renton, Please don't tell me you'd rather watch these 50 films, than these 50.

Yeah, the 70s top 50 fairs better but that is only an avarage of 5 films a year. My overall memory of the 70s films (bearing in mind even I was young then) was good films were few and far between and one of cinemas closing.

I need Neil and Dave to come in here and bump up Commando's rating like.

Commando is AWESOME. It is Arnie's greatest piece of work. FACT. I've watched it a million times and I could watch it a million more. Will that do?

I'm also saying Goonies as well like.

What are you apologising for? I couldn't give a flying fuck what gets posted I'm only trying to stimulate conversation following talk of the forum dying a death

Basically, for going on about the wrong decade. I didn't actually think you'd be arsed though.

Just picked out the ones I like from what I own. Never heard of Sea of Love, was that the Bobby Darrin one? Who Framed Roger Rabbit was class, first film I saw at the pictures, but it was on TV at christmas and i didn't enjoy it so much.

Sea of Love was a return to form for Al Pucino and was a classic thriller. You must have seen it.

IMDB'd it.

1992

The same year as Glengarry Glen Ross. So he returned to form twice.
