Actually, Raging Bull just squeezes into the 80s. One of the greatest films ever.

Edit: BttF is a good call and is very 80s too.

Hmmmmm.

Now I come to think of it, the 80s wasn't a brilliant decade for films, probably better than the 70s though. Nothing springs to mind.

I reckon the 70's was a great era for films tbh. The 80's did produce some classics. As I've mentioned with music though, it's a bit of a strange way to group things as the opposite ends of decades don't have a lot in common.

Anyway, Platoon and Full Metal Jacket spring to mind, along with things like Raiders of the Lost Ark. Too many to mention though probably. It was a good decade for good daft films like Back to the Future and stuff like that (probably an age thing too).

Good shout. Withnail and I would have to go in there too. Along with Bladerunner too.

Have you seen the original? Robert Mitchum is shit scary in the De Niro role.

Spot on with classifying things by decade, its entirley arbritrary and doesn't really capture the 'zeitgest' necessarily [/pretentious]

I'm curious about why you think the 70s was a good decade. I can think of some class individual films, but in general it was an era where the cinema was in decline, for whatever reason. It wasn't until the late 80s/early 90s films started getting back to their hey day imo.

Ferris Bueller, The Breakfast Club. Just class.

Rose tinted specs. Both were repeated recently and are not really worth watching now imo. My favourite was Prety in Pink, which now I find absolutely cringeworthy.

So it was indeed, I was under the assumption it was very late 80's, when it was actually very early 90's.

Hardly. Got both on DVD and rewatch them on a more regular basis than a lot of films.

I suppose I was just thinking about films I love really, I'm certainly no expert but both the Godfather films, Chinatown, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining (seeing a pattern?), Apocalypse Now, Alien, The Deer Hunter, Dog Day Afternoon and loads of others I've probably forgotten are the sorts of things I was thinking of.
