Oba Desperate to be Part of Toon Revolution

OBAFEMI MARTINS has snubbed a £13million switch to Arsenal to stay at Newcastle.

Nigerian striker Martins was a target of Gunners manager Arsene Wenger after he lost Thierry Henry to Barcelona.

The likelihood of a London move increased when it emerged Martins has a £13m get-out clause in his contract.

But last night a source close to Martins revealed the burly striker loves life at St James' Park - and is determined to stay.

He said: “Oba is going nowhere. He will be staying at Newcastle for at least this coming season and possibly the next.”

New Magpies manager Sam Allardyce said: “I have not spoken to Oba, only his representatives, who assure me there is nothing in it.

“But while the window is open and when somebody has a get-out clause like Oba does, then there’s always a chance you might lose him.”

Joey Barton has told football’s big mouths to keep their traps shut. Barton is furious at his former Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce’s attack on him days before his £5.5m move to St James’.

They fell out after Barton’s training bust-up with Ousmane Dabo which left his team-mate needing hospital

treatment.

Barton said: “He [Pearce] said things he shouldn’t have. There are things that should be kept in-house.”

good news in that we don't have to sign more strikers with owen staying. not that we couldn't find room for better than we have already, but it means we can focus on improving the defence and midfield as a priority.

As far as I'm aware, no offer has been forthcoming from Arsenal. If/when it is, THEN we'll know whether Oba is "desperate to be part of Toon revolution". I suspect he'll be off like a fucking shot if Arsene comes calling.

i think its good we got 6 strikers now and they all got to compete for a place should bring out the best in all of them

As someone mentioned it's good news as it means that's one less signing to make. However highly or not you rate Martins, he would need replacing if he left, and I'd rather we were focusing on the areas that are weak at the moment for the time being.

Maybe not but I would say he is classed as a forward though.

luque is not a centre forward, he's a second striker or left sided forward (read winger)....

he's not really anything tbh is he?

Has he been tried as defensive midfielder? Or in the Falklands war?

I take it Allardyce has supervised training sessions when Martins is there and was at the Hartlepool match?

Allardyce: Oba, can I have a word

Martins: (silence)

Allardyce: Oba

Martins: (silence)

Representative: You don't talk to him, you talk to us.

Does he speak English? Maybe if he doesn't that's why SA only speaks to his advisers.

Can Oba not speak through an interpreter then?

If he really feels part of the team, and his English is not up to scratch then surely to goodness he can make an effort through other avenues, and not his "advisers".
