Craig 6682
I have to say I agree with a lot of what Gol is saying. Ritchie and Jimbo keep this place ticking by with regular thread creations. OK, I know others do two but those two start multiple threads in Newcastle chat around the same time which keeps the interest going. As for the technical side of things, well in the early days that was mainly done by me and Gol but with his work situation, he's not been able to afford much time to this place (particularly since he switched jobs a while back) and as a lot of you know, my work has gone nuts since I changed roles 12 months back. More recently (last 12 months) Pud's taken some of the development on and I for one am greatful for that and I'm sure Gol is too. We upgraded this place earlier this month, not because we wanted to, but because we had to. It fell over due to issues with the database size (yes, we're getting too big!) and when we placed a support call, we were told we needed the upgrade to resolve the issues. Sadly it's not a case of uninstalling the old version, installing the new one and everything works around it - all the additional bits need reconfiguration which takes time and needs concentration - something we don't have a lot of at the moment. Something which I think does need to re-iterating is that this is a football forum which had an arcade installed on it - it's not the other way around! If you're here simply for the arcade then really you're at the wrong website and I can forward you in the direction of a gaming forum if that's all you're after. In short the arcade may have been a bit of a shot in the foot - perhaps too many people were playing the games and only posting when their game had finished. Now the games aren't working, maybe they're not coming here at all. The admin are not moaning - they're trying to work out why the place is quiet, fixing the issues set about because of the upgrade, identifying and developing other areas for the site and trying to live their hellish lives at the same time. This is not a rant - it's an explanation.
Radgina 1
Explanation appreciated and understood thanks. I joined the board as I was pointed in the direction by another member on here as I was constantly taking the piss out of him for socialising with his t'internet buds Surprisingly enough I enjoyed it and stayed, not because or as well as the Arcade, but for the Toon info and for the banter. The Arcade for me was a means to an end when things were quiet on here and also added a bit of "competition" about the place , not the only reason I stay here so apologies if this has turned into an issue. Yours and others work on the upgrade of the site, despite all the other demands on your time and energy ,are much appreciated by all. Thanks

Delscottio1 0
I was going to say like, how exactly is "it'd be nice if the arcade could be brought back" a lazy suggestion when the person suggesting it hasn't the slightest clue about programming? If we're only allowed to suggest things that we can actively participate in implementing, then I hereby offer my services as a German-English translator*, since I'm sure that'll be in hot demand on here. *Offer limited to users with more than 50 posts who chirp up at least once a day, naturally. I think the fact that "where's the arcade?" has been posted and answered 200 times was the thing that hit the nerve, followed by "oh look, it's still shit". Soz like That wink at the end sums it all up to me - a bit too zany, this aint a personal attack btw more a culture thats built up. But looking through a lot of posts any "abuse" is more an in joke or tamed down with a wink. Thats the problem when most people know each other, the banter gets a to a level of in jokes and niceties. Howaythetoon 0
I've noticed and SMO mentioned it to me the other day. Spent most of my day yesterday on SMB The SMB you to be a canny board in its day with toon toon, Paully, etc, but I reckon that's gone downhill too. Aye, as the SMB has got bigger it's picked up a ton of retard posters who dilute the quality content. Used to be class when Laputian was in his pomp. As to why this place isn't as popular, part of it is because it hasn't been "marketed" in the way N-O has. HTT set out to make that place big and popular, and he did a pretty GREAT job. I think this place is definitely cliquey (I don't think that that's necessarily a fault, it's just a function of the fact that a lot of us actually do know one another in real life too), and that can't be easy for new users. I can't see me being on here very much at all during the day in my new job. FYP
Guest Patrokles
I hear there's a bloke off another forum looking for a new home; always starts topics that elicit plenty of responses, he's keen on arguing, etc. Should get him on board.

Zathras 244
tbh, I used to post constantly. In the early days of the board, Camil, Alex, me and Jill were vying for the most posts. I was second for some time. Then I hit a point where i had to devote all my time to writing my Thesis. This was only about four weeks, but I found when I came back that I wasn't as interested in a lot of what was going on. Partly I was too lazy to catch up on certain things tttt, but also I felt that things were sort of becoming more and more talking about the piss ups and such which I obviously can't get to. Now and then there's a good thread on here that has something that I can actually comment on, but more frequently than not, there's nothing of any value that I feel I can add to a thread so I don't see the point in spamming. I think the loss of several of the members with whom I used to have the most interaction (being in a different timezone) - Jill, JJ, Camil, Koala, Steve, and a few others, coupled with this has really seen me post less. I still check this place regularly during the day, but I post much much less than I used to. That said, I have to say that I really don't have any worries about the state of this place. It all seems to be going fine and I fully expect things to be service as normal when the season gets into full swing. ta.

IM generally a well mannered and welcoming person, but as I am very fond of this forum and appreciate all that the admin do (suck up time) I took offence to a new member instantly making suggestions for improvements! No one knows as well as me how hard it is to be 'accepted' on here...When I joined toonchat years ago, I had loads of stick and some people were positively obnoxious! At times I admit I over-reacted to what was probably only teasing but its hard to appreciate a different type of humour sometimes. I 'get' it now Like it has been said, its been quiet on here lately because of a number of reasons...mainly being the close season but also like I've always said it is hard to contribute on any forum where there are a few prolific posters who know each other in person, the jokes become boring for others not 'in the know' or just boring because its the same old thing. I've seen several forums go this way, they have their hey day and then slowly decline for no apparent reason. I suppose there are only so many topics to discuss and the members know each other too well! Im not complaining its just what happens. Also like the great Gemmill said, perhaps people just outgrow forums and move on. I've not been on here so much the last few months cos I got bored of forums so I had abit of a break! What we need is for the forum 'lurkers' to join in, why not make the board only possible to read if you sign in? Perhaps that way we'd have some fresh input.....new people to get to know and for you lot to take the piss out of! I agree, as far as I'm concerned, the board is as good as the members make it, negative statements about the place fine, but rather than slag the place off I'd prefer people to start threads and contribute and improve the place rather than just say "its shit", a board is only as good as the membership makes it.
