khay 10
Manchester City are closing in on a deal for Barcelona winger Ludovic Giuly. The Mirror says City boss Sven Goran Eriksson has made the French midfielder his top target after clinching an £8.8million deal for Reggina striker Rolando Bianchi. Giuly, 30, has already snubbed interest from Newcastle and Spurs this summer in order to stay at the Nou Camp and fight for his place. But Eriksson believes he can tempt the former Monaco star to Eastlands by offering him the chance to help City launch their bid for an assault on the top six next term. Ken 119
This season will be one of the closest I reckon. If Man City get the players that Sven wants. Obviously Manu will favourites and Chelsea and Liverpool will be chasing them hard but any number of teams can take positions 3-6, including us!!! GafferTape 0
With all the excitement over Ashley's takeover, we haven't really invested or spent money on players that are likely to push us into the top half of the second-rate clubs. A lot of clubs are spending a lot more money (so far), while we seem to be stagnating a bit.

They are not trophy signings like there has been in the past. Injuries have to be kind to us this season. Judging by what's happened in the past, those are long odds of happening. But Sam is an astute manager, he'll bring in another couple of players hopefully. Never say never! That's what the optimistic side of me says anyway. Dr Gloom 21922
i'm not going to be optimistic until we sign some genuine talent. we need another two defenders minimum but we're lacking in depth in all areas.
David Kelly 1245
i'm not going to be optimistic until we sign some genuine talent. we need another two defenders minimum but we're lacking in depth in all areas. With the exception of strikers I agree. Sam and the new regieme are doing the right things so far but as things currently stand we couldn't really field a stong first eleven for the first game let alone look like having a strong squad for the whole season. Plenty of time left yet like and I think things will move very quickly from now on. Wasn't the 18th of July mentioned as a date when MA's control would be absolute or something like that? That's definitely a concern and something we've complained about the last couple of seasons. Unfortunately I think this season it's somewhat unavoidable that we have to wait a bit for some of our signings. Obviously MA and his team need to get in and get their heads round things before they can sanction big spending. It's frustrating for us and Allardyce but the one good thing is at least Allardyce realised the need to get players in as quickly as possible. Our last two managers were painfully unaware of that! bawan 0
Ludovic Giuly has completed his move from Barcelona to Roma. The Catalan giants accepted an offer of £2.2million over the weekend and Giuly travelled to Italy on Monday to finalise the transfer. He has now passed a medical and agreed terms on a lucrative three-year deal. Giuly had been linked with a return to former club Monaco, as well as several other top European clubs, but he had his heart set on Roma. "He refused offers from six other clubs who were willing to spend up to £6million for his services, but he chose Roma," Ernesto Bronzetti, who acted as mediator in the deal, told Rete Sport. "Last night the difference between the request and the offer was down to £210,000. I opted to give up on my fee to allow the player to sign. "Giuly had been mentioned as a technical counterpart when Barcelona were interested in Chivu. After the negotiations failed I immediately offered the Frenchman to Roma."
