Guest stevieintoon
Not a piss take or anything, but why does a German post about Newcastle? Do you live here or have lived here etc...? What is the kraut perception back home about Newcastle United?
Isegrim 9707
Well, I am truly a Keegan bandwagon jumper as he was one of my favourite players when I was young. I also used to love Beardsley. I missed the chance to hop off at the right time though... There aren't many people who have a real perception about the club down here. Of course the Premierleague is becoming more popular and therefore more people are picking a favourite English club, but the focus is on the bigger teams. I used to write for a bigger German website and got a bit of feedback from other German fans. Most of them were (as me) rather attracted by individual players, especially Shearer, than by the club itself.

Dortmund? Nuremburg? It has to be Schalke and Dortmund (I wouldn't make a big distinction between them - but don't tell this any of their fans). There are loads of similarities to Newcastle. The passionate local support with its base in the (former) predominant working class population of the mining industry. The underachievement over decades (which of course doesn't apply to Dortmund anymore).

McFaul 35
Wolfgang if you come back on line before Friday give me your thoughts on Austria v Belgium. I ask you because obviously Austria's basically Germany isn't it, and you obviously know a lot about German/Austrian football. I've been reading about both teams and I've saw Belgium myself in the last year or two, and they look absolutely shite, where as Austria seem to be able to pull a home win off now and then against the bigger nations, and Belgium definitely aren't one of those. The point is I've got a strong feeling Austria will win, and I'm toying with the idea of sticking a lot of money on them because the odds are fantastic. Everything I'm reading about injuries, players, form suggests there's no way Austria should be 6/4 (2.5) but they are. I just wanted to know if you have an opinion on it, and if you do what is it, you may not have, but being a German football expert it would be nice to hear your input before I go balls deep on this bet. McFaul 35
It's too late now anyway, I've stuck it on. Not as much as I was going to like but I've got £100 on them England and Ireland, paying about £540. I read this kids crack on the punters forum.... I get the impression Austrians are more mental than you bog standard German like. I remember one of the first Sunday league teams I played for we had this Austrian play for us, up Bullocksteads, he worked with one of the blokes in the team. He got injured badly in his first game and couldn't play for 5 month, and he turned up looking like your typical German the next week, opened the dressing room door and went "I VEEL ZUPPORT YOU!", everyone sort of clapped but I couldn't hold my laughter in. toptipperNewbie Punter Join Date: 04 Sep 2008 Location: Austria Posts: 48 Re: EURO 2012 Qualifiers - Friday 25 March Austria - Belgium Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna will be sold out when we face a decent Belgium side at Friday evening. Our team coach Constantini said if we want to reach something in the Quali we will have to win this game at home. 4:4 was the scoreline at the end a few months ago in Belgium. We were decimated by this ******* referre Dean down to 10 men(Scharner was sent off in a rediculous scene) we took the lead 2 times and Belgium was very lucky to equalize that 2:3 in the 88 minute. 90 Minute Belgium even took the undeserved lead. Then in the 93 Minute Harnik scored the 4:4 and a very entertaining game was over. So to come to the Fridays game I see a very decimated Belgium side. Fellaini, Vermaelen, Legear and very likely Lukkaku(muscular problems) will be out. In our team Scharner is suspended and Prödl is out. It s better when Prödl is not available because he is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. Our Line up will be Macho(Panionios Athen)- Fuchs(Mainz05)-Schiemer(Red Bull Salzburg)-Pogatetz(Hannover 96)-Dragovic(Austria Vienna) so a solid defence line up our midfield will be Alaba(Hoffenheim)-Dag(Besiktas)-Junuzzovic(Austria Vienna)-Baumgartlinger(Austria Vienna)or Korkmaz(Vfl Bochum) and the attack ???Janko(Twente Enschede)??? or Harnik(Vfb Stuttgart)-Arnautovic(Werder Bremen) if Janko is fit Harnik will play on the right wing in the midfield The big difference of both sides is that Austrias 11 are a team. Belgium does have a nice team with some talented players but have no confidence. You will see that our team will do everything to win this game. Belgium will have no chance to qualify any more if we win the game we are second placed wit 10 points out of 4 games. In my opinion a 2:1 HW so the 2,5 for the homewin @tipco is worth a shot
Isegrim 9707
Sorry, don't have much time to post these days, too busy locking away people and other personal stuff. You shouldn't tell Austrians that they are basically Germans - that's something they really don't like. For us, I guess, they are our second favourite country for invasions... Austrian football is horrible. The atmosphere in the stadiums is even more tedious than in Germany. Quality wise I don't think there is too much difference between Austria and Belgium. On a good day players like Harnik, Arnautovic, Alaba can be decent, but more often they are rather shite.

Rapid Wien looked very good against Villa and Celtic in recent years, and Belgium are missing some of their top players. Anyway thank you for your input, I've noticed their home results in big games have been good i recent years beating the likes of France and Romania, and in the first game in Brussels a few months ago they scored 4 with 10 men. The bets on now anyway.
