BILLIONAIRE Mike Ashley wants to bring a global superstar to Newcastle — and has put Raul and Deco high on his wanted list.

The Toon's new owner plans to signal his ambition to make the club a worldwide brand by signing one of the biggest names on the planet.

A source revealed: "Now Mike has overall control of Newcastle he wants to make a statement of intent to the rest of world football.

"He wants to land a global superstar to show he means business and make everyone sit up and take notice.

"Mike hopes to move over the next few weeks as Raul and Deco face uncertain futures."

The future of Real Madrid skipper Raul has been in doubt since the sacking of boss Fabio Capello.

Portugal ace Deco wants to play in England and could be offloaded if Barca land Frank Lampard.

why, both are past their best....

if i had to chose it would be deco.

Agreed, although I'm not convinced either would be suited to the Premiership, I'd rather see the club go for someone like Riquelme.

Am I the only one who sees this as a little worrying?

Shepherd?

Trophy signings?

If the statement was "Allardyce wants Raul or Deco and Ashley backs him" then great but this smacks of Fat man again.

I think it's important to remember that these quotes are from a "source" and have been printed in the NOTW, perhaps it's best not to take them as gospel.

Since its the NOTW we can treat is as far from a guarentee of being true! But if it is true that Ashley wants to back Big Sam in making 1 or 2 big signings to show we mean business then thats great.

The problem is we're not even in the uefa cup nevermind the CL which can limit the level of player you can attract, but we'll see what they pull off.

neither would come here

That's the reality of the situation, money can't buy everything.

I'd like us to make solid progression by adding quality players rather than simply offering huge money to star players in the hope of catching up with the top 4 within the first season. Ashley isn't stupid and I doubt he thinks that we're going to make up the ground immediately and I don't think he'll be spending silly money on players like West Ham have been doing.

West Ham's problem is that they're spending a lot of money on players that will only take them as far as 7th.

Our big spending got us to 13th :D

You don't think someone like Deco would suit the Premiership who's harrying and closing down game is vastly underrated? yet you think we should go for someone like Riquelme. :D

nope, at that level bellamy is too inconsistent. parker simply isn't good enough.
