smoggeordie 0
SAM Allardyce has angered Bolton by poaching seven of his old backroom team to join him at Newcastle. The Toon boss plans to recruit almost a third of the staff he put together at The Reebok. Most of his targets have handed in their notice in the past few days. Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside is raging at the mass defection, which comes despite talk of "hands off" agreements with Allardyce, who quit as Bolton manager in April. Relations between the pair are strained, with Allardyce branding Gartside "sad and bitter". Newcastle's prize capture is "soccer professor" Mike Forde, but several medical, fitness and scouting staff are leaving Bolton. Wanderers are considering putting many of those resigning on gardening leave, which would prevent them working for Newcastle straight away, although the clubs are discussing possible compensation. Allardyce is interested in FC Copenhagen defender Brede Hangeland and may offer £2m. The Norway centre-back, 26, joined the Danish side a year ago from Viking Stavanger. Papa Lazaru 0
About time, it should have been done earlier with pre season just starting. Allardyce already stated his absolute priority was to start getting players in to bolster the squad and that backroom staff would be sorted as and when he could. Now he has a brief chance he's lining up the people we need. And he can start pre-season putting some of his ideas and techniques into place before everyone else arrives, he will remember what he used to do at Botlon! Its great if we really are just importing all the key staff from Bolton instead of havign to advertise for all these positions, interview and then maybe end up with people who aren't as good! Papa Lazaru 0
This will be as important as any signing we've made so far. Long term definitely, in fact more important. Our club has been one of the most piss poor, unproffesional, badly run/managed/coached clubs around from top to bottom and the idea that the whole place is going to be transformed into the exact oppositte is brilliant. However we won't see all the benefits until the season after next when Big Sam and his myriad staff have had a full year or so to work with the players, change the way they do things and get the best out of everybody. So in the short term Allardyce obviously needs to perform well enough to show we're going in the right direction under him so that he gets the time to reap the benefits of his long term structures. ewerk 31601
GARTSIDE RAPS SAM 'QUALITY' By David Anderson 05/07/2007 BOLTON chairman Phil Gartside has hit back at Sam Allardyce in their increasingly bitter war of words - claiming they will be better without him. Gartside is angry at the Newcastle boss for going back on their agreement not to take any of the Reebok backroom team and is insisting they serve out 12 months' notice. Sammy Lee is appointing a new team - including Frank McParland as general manager - and Gartside claims they will make Wanderers more professional. "I'm trying to get people who wanted contracts with 12 months' notice to work their notice," he said. "If that makes me sad and bitter, then so be it. But people have gone and there was an agreement that he shouldn't take them with him. "Far from making things difficult, we're finding it quite easy to replace them with better quality people. They will make us a much more professional outfit." Newcastle's new billionaire supremo Mike Ashley hopes the Toon Army will soon be dining out to celebrate success - but he is unlikely to join them. Ashley aims to finally halt years of under-achievement on Tyneside. But unlike most of his predecessors, the reclusive sportswear magnate is determined to remain under the radar. The 42-year-old has appointed sports lawyer Chris Mort to run the club day to day, and the new deputy chairman revealed: "Mike's a social guy, but he doesn't want to become a celebrity. He likes the fact he can go to a restaurant and not get recognised." http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...89520-19407909/
