Park Life 71
It's been pretty mundane so far...Fatty Viduka, snot nose naughty Barton...Dependable Rozenhal. We've perhaps for so long been craving a proper defence and some real triers, let us not lose sight of the fact that we also need to play some interesting football. Come on Sam give us at least one magician.

Offshore Toon 0
We already have enough 'trophy' players that play football that is easy on the eyes. Sam is bringing some grit, power and determination into our squad.
Baggio 0
Geremi seems like the cheap option to me, similar to when we signed Carr. I'm having doubts about the supposed war chest Ashley is giving Allardyce tbh.
Gejon 2
I think people are getting a bit too Its the second of July, we have signed 4 players (3 of which are potentially squad padders) and Ashley hasn't even completed his takeover yet. Guest Patrokles
I personally think we'll sign one expensive player, and I reckon it'll be a left-back. Obviously if either Owen or Martins leaves, it may well be that our big signing of the summer is a forward.

Who will in most circumstanes cost £10m + I hope money is being saved for this. If we sign another two or three cloggers I'm going to start worrying. Baggio 0
eidur's pretty hot assuming we're still after him, he's got real style in his play We've got a decent group of strikers as it is though, he's far better than Ameobi but can we keep all of Owen, Martins, Viduka and Gudjohnsen happy with no European football? I don't think we can and unless Owen or Martins moves then signing Gudjohnsen is a luxury we don't need, especially if we're skimping on the back four. Joey Barton isn't exactly our own Xabi Alonso but I wouldn't call him a clogger either. Viduka also has a talent for holding the ball up and bringing players into the game. As yet we haven't signed a massively creative player (although linked to Eidur) but the additions we have made will make the team more creative than we were. Ketsbaia 0
I think that by the time Ashley completes his takeover (July 18th) he'll have started to pump some serious money in.

Yup that was one of the things lacking all last season, got rid of most of the dead wood, replaced some of the number (but not enough yet), but still need that I think. The likes of Van der Vaart is gettable perhaps or splash out on a Nasri or Sneijder. Emre is a bit too one pass good three passes bad for my liking. Barton isn't really at all creative, more solid and attacking but not a maker.

Guest Patrokles
Incidentally, how long has the transfer window been open? Surely not long enough for people to be already bitching and whining and going all chicken little because we haven't signed Ronaldinho yet. I don't think anyone is doing that, just pointing out that the players that are coming in are hardly going to push us up to where we want to be, we're going to need more quality to push us up around where we were under Robson. Chelsea bought the likes of Duff, Joe Cole, Makelele so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, they did have the attraction of CL though. Ketsbaia 0
I think people have just got to relax and realise that what we're doing at the moment is building a squad capable of performing week in, week out. Okay, they're not world class but what we've lacked over the past few years is a squad with someone capable in every position. Not only are we doing that but we're doing it without spending too much money, which will stand us in good stead for when we do start to look at the big names. Once we've got the bare bones of a top 6 or even top 4 squad we can start on throwing big money bids in for players and testing other club's resolve. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
