Craig 6700
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has turned down the offer of a new contract, BBC Sport understands. It follows News of the World claims the Blues were willing to make him the top earner at Stamford Bridge. The newspaper says the deal would have eclipsed the £121,000 a week given to Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack. England midfielder Lampard, 29, has two years left on his current contract and said last week he was content to see out that period of time at the club. "They don't have to offer me anything so I'll just carry on," he stated. However, Lampard added last month that he would have liked the club to have offered any such new deal in early June. "In an ideal world, it would have happened three weeks ago but it is not an ideal world," said the Blues star. "It feels strange. It is something I am trying to keep my mind off. You get on with it. I am not surprised by it because nothing surprises you in football." Under Fifa rules, Lampard can buy out the remainder of his contract but it was reported in February that he was unlikely to take that course of action. The £15m-rated player has been linked to Barcelona and Juventus, who are now managed by former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri. Lampard enjoyed his most prolific season in front of goal for the Blues in the 2006-2007 campaign, scoring 21 times. Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...sea/6258890.stm I know some people claim Lampard is over-rated, but if he's valued at £15m, what the hell where Man Utd playing at paying £2m more for both Carrick and Hargreaves? Plus, if it is true and he's turned down a deal to become the club's highest earner, you have to question his motives and whether he truly does want to be at the club. I can see some mileage in the argument between Gerrard and Lampard, but neither Carrick nor Hargreaves are anywhere near Frank in terms of talent! Andrew 4857
maybe if he goes to barca he'll learn to keep hold of the ball which might just make him worth starting in the england team
tinofbeans 91
all 3 are different types of players, carricks a deep lying playmaker, hargreaves is a holding midfielder. lampard is a goal scoring midfielder.... lampard is the best in terms of talent but would need one of the other 2 to play alongside him to ensure he was effective... ewerk 31195
Seeing as he has been involved in contract negotiations for quite awhile it appears that this boils down to money, and if so then he is a greedy twat for turning down £120k+ pw. If he wants to move for footballing reasons then he should just come out and say so, I don't think anyone would blame him for that.
Papa Lazaru 0
If one Lampard goes to Barcelona, we should sign the other one. Can we put ourselves down for a couple of Terry's and a Drogba as well if this is how it works!

MrBass 2715
I still want to know what this 3 weeks has to do with it Principles I'd imagine. Say, for example, you've been with your current firm for several years and you feel you're entitled to a payrise. You ask your boss and you get turned down. Then you get offered a job somewhere else and all of a sudden your current place offers you more money to stay. If that's the situation then fair play I say. It's about image rights I know what you're saying, but Chelsea are telling both him and JT that Chelsea will have complete ownership of their image rights. I think it's the principle more than anything.
