NEWCASTLE's Damien Duff is unlikely to play again this year because of the bone he broke in his foot in the game at Portsmouth at the end of last season.

He will miss the rest of the Ireland's European Championship qualifying campaign and the start of Sam Allardyce's Toon revolution because of the injury.

"It'll be way off before we will see Damien playing for us," said Allardyce.

"We are talking about November at the very earliest, and that's hoping. It is a much more serious injury than say the broken metatarsal that Michael Owen suffered."

Duff endured a difficult first season at St James' Park following his £5million move from Chelsea. He struggled for form and managed just one goal in 29 games before suffering the horrendous injury in Newcastle's defeat at Fratton Park, breaking the bone which joins his foot and ankle.(The People)
