Alex 35571
Yeah I agree with that, I remember when I first went to Wiggle (Terry Francis' night), and I got bored after a while (which was a first for me at the time, in thinking back it may of also had something to do with more modern/digital PA's appearing at that time (I think Fabric was the first place i went that had speakers lifted up off the floor), I wasn't too keen on that as I couldn't stick my head in the bass bin ) My opinion then was that tech-house was just people playing deep-house too fast. This was a good one of his: (Pagan put out some good tunes) I also had the unmixed Vinyl of that comp he put out on Pagan (Architecture), there was some good tracks on that, including this. I used to knock about with this lass who I went to uni with. She was a south London girl and I was down staying at her place. We were supposed to go to Wiggle one night but she was predictably fucking hopeless about it and couldn't work out where we were meant to be going so we never made it. I got quite into the Pagan label around about that time though. I've got the mixed version of that Architecture compilation. I've got a few other compilations and albums off the label too: http://www.discogs.com/Housey-Doingz-Doing-It/release/68095 http://www.discogs.com/House-Of-909-Soul-Rebels/master/144466 http://www.discogs.com/Derrick-Carter-Pagan-Offering/release/7836 http://www.discogs.com/Swayzak-Snowboarding-In-Argentina/release/163936 http://www.discogs.com/House-Of-909-The-Children-We-Were/release/5349 http://www.discogs.com/Presence-All-Systems-Gone/release/1720 This is probably my favourite though: More of a deep house than a tech house vibe on that one. Alex 35571
I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Naked Music, the productions were warm & smooth with that very distinctive west coast sound, but they were always destined to become background fodder for cocktail bars. (the record sleeves didn't help with that whole vibe) there's some good tunes on this mix by MM I prefer my music to be a bit rough around the edges (and my women drinking pints & smoking rollies) I've got that Mig's mix too as it happens. Very similar to the previous one I mentioned. I totally agree with you too. I like the music but it usually ends up being played in the sort of places I'd rather poke myself in the eye with a shitty stick than spend a lot of time in. Similar with clubbing where I always felt more comfortable in a dive listening to techno or jungle than a posey house club. I quite like the Bargrooves compilations too (before Defective bought the series) which were usually mixed by Ben Sowton. In the same way, I wouldn't go for the sort of venues the music is played in (the Seamless Records parties / events look awful). It's basically irrelevent like as I rarely go out these days anyway. It's the soundtrack to me and my lass eating our tea.
Dr Gloom 22143
I want to recommend everyone checks out Dismantle's soundcloud page - https://soundcloud.com/dismantlemusic Is it house, techno or dubstep? I have no idea but i like it. Edited September 3, 2014 by Dr Gloom
Alex 35571
I thought I'd killed this thread Will have a listen, Gloom. Anyway, was looking through my collection and I stumbled upon a Moodymann disc (Black Mahogani) which I have absolutely no recollection of buying. Had a check on Amazon and I bought it about 8 years ago. In light of my writing his off I thought I should give it a go. It didn't really do it for me although I did like I'm Doing Fine and the title track Still not sure what the fuss is aal aboot like. Also, seeing as this is supposed to be about recent stuff, I like the eponymous Ytre Rymden Dansskola album. I suppose you'd class it as mellow deep house. It's not going to change your life but it's nice, chilled stuff:

Alex 35571
that second one sounds like hotel lobby/elevator muzak Not a fan of his as I was saying earlier. Don't get the hype at all. Those were the only two I quite liked though on what is considered by many to be a cult / classic LP.

ChezGiven 0
The Objekt b-side does it for me like, innovative and rewarding at the same time which can be a rarity these days.

ChezGiven 0
If you like that Onjekt track, its on Leisure System records. Back in 2012, one of my records of the year i posted on here was the Jets E.P that was one the early releases on the label. The Travis Stewart remix of Meu (him out of Machinedrum) is decent. The original E.P is cracking though. Just reminded of it as its the same label. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTVHSVGDQYM

ChezGiven 0
Not sure if i posted the Head High album in here but i've been into a few tracks on my running playlist. Ideally i'd be running on the spot, trying to chew my own ear off but sadly gone are those days.

Dr Gloom 22143
this is awesome and reminds a bit of soul in motion, an absolute classic old school tune by krust. i can't find it on youtube, weirdly, but it comes in on this mix at about 6.30 -

ChezGiven 0
Bought this back in 96 on vinyl, was listening to it at the weekend when i had the flat to myself. Not ashamed to admit i closed the curtains and started throwing some shapes.
