khay 10
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to pay Obafemi Martins' £13 million buyout clause to take him away from Newcastle United. The Sun says Gunners boss Wenger has £16m from skipper Henry's Barcelona switch to play with and a swoop for the 17-goal Toon ace would give him further room for manoeuvre in the transfer market. St James' Park chief Sam Allardyce has met with Martins to discuss the hitman's future after he refused to play against Watford in the final game of last season. Big Sam wants Martins to stay but knows he might ask to leave if a club of Arsenal's stature makes a formal offer.
David Kelly 1282
Wouldn't be the worst news if I'm honest. Although with Owen's departure inevitable some time in the next 12 months will have a big goals gap to fill.
khay 10
Wenger hoping to house MartinsArsenal reportedly plan to take advantage of a release clause in Obafemi Martins' Newcastle contract to bring him to the Emirates Stadium Thierry Henry completed his £16.1million move to Barcelona on Monday and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sees Nigerian frontman Martins, who scored 17 goals for the Magpies last season, as his ideal replacement, according to The Sun and The Independent. Martins reportedly has a release clause in his contract, meaning Newcastle would be powerless to prevent his departure should Arsenal pay the £13million required to trigger it. However, it is believed that the former Inter Milan striker favours a return to Serie A should he decide to leave St James' Park, with Juventus thought to have expressed an interest. Newcastle are apparently so desperate to keep the 22-year-old, who would become Arsenal's joint record signing should he move to the Emirates Stadium, that they are willing to rip up his £60,000-a-week contract and offer him a wage rise if he agrees to remove the clause. Martins moved to Newcastle last summer for £10million from the San Siro and, despite a slow start, eventually became a fan favourite on Tyneside. The Independent also reports that Arsenal remain interested in Lyon midfielder Florent Malouda.
ewerk 31604
How fucked off will Owen be if Arsenal pay £4m more to take Martins rather than him? Would be a decent bit of business IMO.
