Anderson in Black Cats talks

Sunderland are in talks with Aberdeen defender Russell Anderson over a possible move to the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats agreed a fee with Aberdeen on Tuesday and they gave Sunderland permission to speak to the Scottish international.

Aberdeen were reluctant to sell Anderson, but with the player having just 12 months to run on his current contract they have decided to cash-in on him.

Anderson's agent Blair Morgan confirmed the player had been given the green light to hold talks with Sunderland boss Roy Keane.

"Russell has been given permission to talk to Sunderland," Morgan told the Scottish Sun.

"We are here for those meetings and we will see how it all progresses." Should Sunderland tie up a move for Anderson he will become the second new signing of the summer on Wearside following the capture of Greg Halford from Reading.

Don't do it Russell.

Is he any use?

They seem to be struggling to get in the type of players that they've been linked with. (Scholes, Smith, Forlan, Jaaskelinen, Nugent etc.)

I've been telling all the makems at work that this would happen for ages. The last two times they were in the premiership they got relegated with the lowest points ever and even beyond that when was the last time they spent more than two seasons in the top flight?

Even with the new money they have, good players aren't going to be desperate to go there.

Keane is a major factor though and they're better off financially as well compared to the last time they came up. I'm sure they'll manage to sign a few decent players before the window closes.

Keane will be a draw, as well as the fact there's a mini revolution going on there, but you can see that they're struggling to get the calibre of players they need. They might have to just hope they get in enough bodies to stay up and then hope to build on it next year.

Keane is a draw but not as big as a draw as what the mackems think he is. They take the piss all the time about the fee's we pay and the wages we pay, the fact is the matter is, if you want big name players you've got to pay them sort of wages

I agree with that. He has no experience as a manager before this season and players will know that.

I'm sure they're in a better position to attract players than they were last time they were promoted but the vast majority of their squad isn't premierleague standard (any of their less moronic fans will tell you that) and I can't see them getting enough quality in to do anything more than just barely survive.

Yeah, some of the mackems seem to think Keane has the attraction of a combination of Fergie, Wenger and Mourinho rolled into one!

The truth is this is the best chance they've had in years because they are run better, have money and a manager who will attract better players than their previous ones, but they also seem to forget their club is currently known for record relegation seasons, has never been established in the prem for any real length of time and they may also not be willing to match the wages being thrown roudn by the likes of West Ham if they're competing for a player.

I think they'll probably do ok next season to tbh, hope they go down, but don't see it being that liekly.

When you consider the amount of teams who also have 'new money' (us, Portsmouth, West Ham, Citeh, Villa) and how far back their squad is compared to those teams and the likes of Blackburn, Spurs, Everton, Reading, they will have have a lot to do if they want to do anything above the bottom five!

A major factor to the players they're currentlygetting (Halford, Anderson etc.) but these big name European players that were apparently going to flock to the SoL like flies on shit? I doubt they could give a toss. It's all about trophies, immediate success and money. The likes of Forlan aren't going to hang around for season after season while Sunderland and Keane creep up the league, they'll go for a club that are already successful or almost there, regardless of who's in charge.

Will he cut it down here do think?

I would imagine so. He's a very good defender.

As he has signed for the unwashed, you can understand my bias when I say that his price tag and age suggests otherwise?

Reports are that he sent his £70,000 signing on fee to Aberdeen's academy, which is a good gesture I reckon.

Just spoke to a lad who lives in Scotland who said "He's good, but not as good as Aberdeen fans and the Scottish media would have you believe"

I was hoping he'd say he was shite.
