Scottish Mag 3
Sam Allardyce will keep a close eye on David Beckham's career in California after admitting he has not abandoned his ambitious bid to make the midfielder a Newcastle player next season. Beckham's spell in Spain ended with a Primera Liga title at the weekend and, although the 32-year-old will join LA Galaxy's MLS campaign next month, his schedule in the United States could enable him to make a sensational return to the Premier League in 2007's opening weeks. Although head coach Frank Yallop does not favour the idea, Alexi Lalas - the Galaxy's general manager - is amenable to Beckham returning to Europe on loan when the American domestic season comes to an end in November. With his club's permission, the former England captain would be able to make such a move once January's transfer window opens. And although such a situation would depend on several incalculables, it seems as though Allardyce is determined to make his intentions known to the player's representatives at the earliest opportunity. "I've always thought he (Beckham) could do a job in the Premiership, if he becomes available I would gladly take him on loan at Newcastle," the Magpies boss told Zoo magazine. "That's something that can only be discussed at a later date, but if he carries on the way he is going on, there will be plenty of people who want to acquire his services. "Henrik Larsson (who spent three months on loan at Manchester United last season) proved you can make an impact by coming on a short-term loan to the Premiership. David could definitely make a big impression. "His season in America will be over in November, so technically he might be able to come and play in Europe then, but he'll need a good break first. He's only having a couple of weeks holiday before he goes to LA Galaxy this summer, so by November he'll have to have another break. "Then it will be between LA Galaxy and him to decide whether he (can) come back here on loan, or whether he has too many off-field commitments." It will be up to Yallop and Lalas, but Beckham is understood to be determined to taste Premier League action again before he hangs up his boots. Given the impressive manner in which the departing Real Madrid star performed following his recent international recall, Allardyce will not be alone in formulating such a plan. That Beckham has proved his doubters wrong in recent weeks is beyond question. "When David decided to go to America, it looked like he had no future with either Real Madrid or England," said the Newcastle boss in his latest column for Zoo. "But David has always known he could still play at the top level. Only other people questioned that - Steve (McClaren, the England coach) decided to move on with England and (Real boss Fabio) Capello thought he was surplus to requirements at Madrid." Such will be the interest in securing Beckham's services in 2007, Allardyce appears to have been astute in outlining his intentions at such an early stage. Having done so, the 52-year-old can concentrate on more immediate matters as he strives to add to the signings of Mark Viduka from Middlesbrough and Joey Barton from Manchester City. Adding defensive strength to his first-team squad is his chief concern and, having lost Tal Ben Haim to Chelsea, Allardyce is determined to make a breakthrough. Paris-Saint Germain's David Rozehnal remains on his wanted list, although despite claims from the Czech's agent United are in pole position, officials at the Parc des Princes last night said Borussia Dortmund is Rozehnal's likely destination. Newcastle have been linked with Barcelona's Ludovic Giuly, but following Allardyce's assertion he is not interested, the Frenchman last night said : "I want to remain at Barcelona - if that's what I desire, no one will be able to transfer me." ewerk 31587
Firstly, why exactly is he doing an interview with Zoo? Secondly, has anyone got pics of the photo shoot? And finally, I don't want to take Beckham on loan for a couple of months.

manc-mag 1
Not reading that article. Shutting my eyes, putting my fingers in my ears and hoping it goes away as quickly as Sam's summer tan.

khay 10
I would take him for a couple of months, would raise club profile and sell a lot of t-shirts.
ewerk 31587
Having Beckham here would be quality tbf. No it wouldn't tbf. The place would be turned into a media circus, Beckham would be demanding a starting place regardless of the form of our RW at the time, Beckham lacks pace as it is and would take time to readjust to the speed of the PL and there's a chance that we'd see his rancid, sour-faced rake of a wife at SJP if she dares to venture that far north. sammynb 3640
Of course. Why?
Sima 0
Because Solano isn't fit to lace Beckham's boots. Solano was very, very average last season. His best days are comfortably behind him. Only sentimentality (which clouds a lot of fans judgements) would suggest otherwise.

Jimbo 175
I can't believe anyone can doubt Beckham's worth, his performances for Real Madrid during the last six months were instrumental in them winning La Liga, he would raise the profile of the club to new heights and is a country-mile better than any other right sided player at the club. I'm all for getting in players that are better than the ones we currently have tbh, media circus or not. Having Posh Spice in the crowd wouldn't affect me as I can't see the bitch from where I sit anyway.
ChezGiven 0
Its not right in the head to doubt Beckham could do a job for us since he has been doing a fairly decent one in the last month for Real Madrid and England. Beckham is miles better than Solano.

Sima 0
As the Rooney/Colleen media hype is rapidly escalating in this country I presume people would use the same logic to turn him down? Hypothetically of course.

When it was clear it was leaving Real I had serious doubts as to whether he would be able to fit into the PL again but I really don't think he will be able to do so in such a short space of time. Come January Beckham will have only played MLS football and a couple of international games for six months, to throw any player into the PL, especially someone as one-paced as he is, and expect them to perform is asking too much. I just think it would be more hassle than it's worth.
sammynb 3640
sammy thinks Solano is better than Beckham. Stick to aussie rules. Gemmill blow it out your arse you tool. Did I say that? It was a statement that I wanted to hear someone reasoning for but hey you know best don't you twat? By the way you probably know more about aerial ping pong than I do, I'm from NSW. Sima, I think Beckham has made an impressive return to form recently but it was inspired by a fuck you to McClaren and Capello and I'd be worried he would be no better than Solano if he was to move to Newcastle. Anyway it's not going to happen unless the scientology church gets a few more influencial members than Jimmy Nail and Mark Knoffler.
