Jimbo 175
Just listening to Talksport, James Whale is doing a tribute to Bernard Manning, and so far every caller has complemented on Manning being an absolute top bloke that went out of his way do work for good causes, and in private was a generous and caring human being, I guess sometimes we see people as their perceived persona rather than the actual human being. He wasn't my cup of tea either, but I'm willing to think that the human being shouldn't be judged purely on his act.
tinofbeans 91
fair enough. my view as you may have guessed was based on his act. RIP.

To be fair, your average Talksport listener (no offence ) - ie white van man - would find Manning's 'humour' right up their street imo. Having said that, I admit I don't know that the late-night shows attract the same audience as the rest of the stuff they broadcast. Well, I'm a talksport listener, and I wouldn't describe myself as a racist or a bigot, the folk I heard ring in tonight were not refering to his act, but were refering to the man himself and the acts of kindness, generosity and sacrifice the man made outside the public eye. The Fish 11080
is it not possible that talksport chose people who were defending Manning in the face of the generally held opinion that the man was an odious little bigot, so as to spark debate and discussion? Thats Talksport's usual tactic indeed, but as far as I'm conserned I'm willing to believe that a persons character outside the public eye deserves more credit than his act, whilst I found Manning's act unpleasant, listening to the many testimonials to Manning lastnight all prasing him as a kind and generous person, I'm willing to give him the benifit of the doubt. Guest alex
He could be quite funny at times imo. Was a bit of a bigotted old twat but then again, I bet a few people have family members they could say the same about.

Renton 22454
I pretty much lost any respect for him when the BBC aired an interview with him where he admitted he was a racist and that "he didn't like some people". He went on to say that the notion that black people born here are English is absurd. To paraphrase "If a dog is born in a stable does that make it a horse?". Now that is quite a funny line tbf, but it doesn't take away from what an utterly repellant view point it is. RIP you fat racist twat.
