Meenzer 15839
It's fair enough really - you're paying for the experience of sitting in the pub/café/etc. far more than you are for the product you consume. At least that's how I always see it. Don't really get the point of getting takeout coffee from somewhere like Costa if there's a cheaper local equivalent nearby though. Walliver 0
I expect he's roughly right for the price of a cup of coffee if he/you/the shop doesn't include wages etc. The reason for the huge mark up is to cover all these extra costs that go into making the coffee and getting it to your table. The point being the mark-up on coffee is comparatively huge though. Mark up is huge on loads of things. A sleeve of popcorn costs a cinema about 7p and they can fill quite a few tubs that they then sell for £3/4/5 a pop.

ewerk 31586
Your mobile cost about 70p to make. And how'd you figure that one out? Using the same method as the 5p per coffee? My cousin imports them from Korea and Hong Kong. Got tired of being a postie. On average, Nokia spends about $88 to build a phone—though the actual costs vary widely, from $20 or less for basic models to hundreds of dollars for decked-out multimedia gizmos. http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/cont...0803_618811.htm Maybe your cousin could do me a good deal? Jusoda Kid 1
I know a lad who has a Costa (iirc) Coffee franchise for his sandwich shop. The mark-up on that stuff is fucking ludicrous. Probably the same lad Alex. His brother had to get it taken out of the Benfield road shop as it was just to expensive for the clientèle around there. I'm sure it's about 8p a cup buy in Aye, John - that's him. And that's the place on Benfield Rd. Actually, wor sis told me his brother runs the shop now but John was telling me how little it cost him per cup. 8p might have been it. That's how much Costa charged him btw, before anyone starts Aye, his brother's my best mate, thats who i used to work for, his design business is on the back. I'm sure Mark told me it was 8p but he got it taken out and a Pumphreys machine put in as his main bread and butter are Crosslings staff and they just haven't got £2's to be spending on cups of coffee. Sounds about right. I don't know Mark but John is a good lad. Canny funny too (canny dodgy anarl ). He was at my sister's for her birthday the other week. His lass used to work with my sis. Knew them both since i was about three, both canny lads but that tight they wake themselves up to see if they've lost any sleep, I shit you not Fucking hilarious when they start calling each other about being tight

Hence once again my original point is proved.

Toonraider 0
Before you lock this thread, getting back to the sandwiches. Rather than all these pretentious, finicky versions, shirley you can't beat the good old Crispy bacon with a dollop of HP brown sauce one? And for the sweet toothed, you're all forgetting the classic, thick clotted cream with a jam of your choice in thick white doorsteps.
