Subway has that strange smell about it (a little bit like McDonalds) where it's more 'industrial' than food if you know what I mean.

Its 'other-worldy'. Its what i imagine food on the Starship Enterprise tastes like.

Fucking hell, if after another 500 years or whatever the best they can come up with is Subway I worry for my descendants.

Good description. It's a bit like food but not quite. You can't quite put your finger on what it is about it though.

I noticed theres a new subways about to open on waaaaallsend high street - couple of doors down from the kfc.

My mate had a Subways franchise and managed to end up declaring himself bankrupt with it. Genius.

How the fuck is that possible like, were you eating there for free?

Seriously though.....how is that possible? Those places charge a fortune for next to shit.

AYe, the same aroma in every city in every country. I'm sure it's deliberate.

Btw, can I lose my official gastro snob badge now? Subway's not great, but's it's nowhere near as bad as some are making out on here and is better than BK, McDonald's, or KFC.

The Fish is gunning for it but it's still yours for now

Only if you can explain why 'bacon bits' in a subway shop look like they've been coloured in red with a felt tip pen.

Not sure really. I know that Subway basically require you to pay them a certain amount every month regardless of takings - it's a percentage but there's a minimum threshold. He must have got into debt to set himself up with the franchise and then didn't make anywhere near enough to live on/pay off the debt.

There's also the fact that he never actually went to the shop. He would just sit at home and fill in the returns and let his "sandwich artists" (I'm not joking, that's what they call them) do all the work.

Dipping in the till artists by the sounds of it.

The scent you're searching for is puke. Which is food, if only reconstituted, semi digested food.

I've just had a tomato, turkey and salami sandwich which took me about a minute to make, and I choose my sandwich at work based on how funny the pun in the title is. I wouldn't say I'm a gastro snob.

He was forever having to pay to get the windows replaced too. Disgruntled sandwich shoppers were an issue. Plus people (hard people) turning up drunk and announcing that they wanted a sandwich but under no circumstances did they intend to pay for it.

No sandwich artist should be expected to die for his art.

Naah, Subway's is nearly always empty. I'd never get involved in a Franchise with it.

I know a lad who has a Costa (iirc) Coffee franchise for his sandwich shop. The mark-up on that stuff is fucking ludicrous.
