Gemmill's Sandwich Challenge (Reprise)

Talking about the chicken/fish combination, now I come to think of it, I seem to remember having something fishy on the top of my Chicken ceasar salad in a restaurant once

Anchovies, but thats different.

If anything the chicken was accompanying the fish, because the anchovies are integral to a ceasar salad.

I realise that subtle distinction makes no difference to the actual taste matrix.

Yes anchovies! Thanks! I was told by the waiter that it was the correct way to serve Chicken ceasar, though I didnt like it much.

Surf and turf's nice, so fish plus a meat is a possible combo.

Had surf and turf at Rockafella last weekend. Was class. £32 like!? Pisstake.

Gratuitous meatfest.

Whats wrong with one or t'other you ginger beast?

It was only 4 prawns tbf. Big ones though. The meat was in a foie gras veloute whatever that means. It was nice though.

Zip it Fish. Continuing the Sandwich Idol theme (that's me btw), you can be Rik Waller.

If we're doing a shitty talent search format for this then Simon Cowell is a bit of a stretch, I'd peg you more as a David Guest character, bucko

p.s. I'm having an a new twist on an old classic; Roasted chicken breast slices, Monterey Jack cheese, crispy bacon, Chinese leaf lettuce, thick cut tomatoes, and cool ranch spread served on seeded batch.

nice and simple

Tasty....and another to beat Gemmill's

I've had it in the states before where it was lobster and steak. Which is a bit gratuitous, admittedly.

Velouté is a soup. You had the meat in a soup with a side of 4 prawns?

Toplass action? I didn't realise so many board members were so familiar with her that it warranted its own abbreviation. :icon_lol:

I've seen people order lobster and steak in America. Also I remember my cousin chundering after being in an all-you-can-eat place over there. It was probably the 4th ice cream with butterscotch sauce at the end that did him in.

If Destroyed Still True.

It's a school pencil case rather than internet message board-type abbreviation though.

I know a sandwich I havent made for awhile. A few lean slices of roast pork, sage and onion stuffing, a touch of caramalised red onion and real apple sauce.

Scampi is fish isn't it? I'm not misunderstanding this....

Fish and chicken people...

What with Wacky's Fish Fingers, Roast Beef and Beetroot sarnies, no wonder Gemmill is claiming the win.

Fish fingers, beans and beetroot you numpty, don't knock it until you've tried it tbh

Tramp City but nice

Sorry, but I know that's vile without trying it. You've gone too far with the beetroot.

Plus it breaks the one unswerving rule in food etiquette.... the two sloppies rule.

How can you put beans with beetroot??????

As for the scampi and chicken combo, I felt the same however this thread provoked us to select something a little different and it was a taste sensation.

How is beetroot sloppy?

Its juicy and vinegarry (is that even a word???)

When pickled, aye. Even still it's not exactly sloppy, I mean it's not wallowing in it's own juice, ala beans. The sloppy rule usually applies to things like beans and gravy. Which isn't off limits like.

I presume wacky is draining off the vinegar before slicing and lobbing in his butty.

The challenge before you is to beat that for quality of sandwich

The closing date for entries into the sandwich challenge was midnight last night. I'm afraid I'm not accepting any more applications.

Oh, and I won my own challenge btw.

The way I read it you posted a sandwich in the first thread that everyone had to try and beat: if you were to win the competition you would need to beat that first sandwich.

As it stands, you have entered no candidates so cannot possibly win. Either there is no winner because no one has beaten it or PP has won it by general consensus.

According to the terms, Gemmill wins in the event that everybody fails to beat his challenge.

He doesnt win though either way because his sandwich is still shit and has been soundly beaten.

No amount of draining can remove the purple juice from beetroot, regardless it will make the beans purpley and thereby lies the second part of the two sloppies rule. Anything which changes the colour of another sloppy is just wrong tbh.

Agree tbh on the beans n gravy rule although it cant be full gravy. Beans with say Shepherds Pie is one of gods (or is that Mr Findus's) finest creatings as long as the gravy is more a flavouring to the mince than pure sloppy.

I see what you're driving at yes, then again beetroot will stain everything anyway, the breed, the fish fingers, your hands, your face, the kitchen, the front room, the settee, everything. So a wee bit of cross contamination with the beans is probably the very least of your worries.

Yeah that's all very interesting, but if you look in the thread title, this is Gemmill's Sandwich Challenge, not Walliver's. So what happens now is you get to fuck off.
