He's gone to Chewsee. That's his problem.

Move on.

Anyway, didn't he do some dastardly cheating in some way (diving or summat?? ) a couple of seasons ago?? *just attempting a weak, moralistic 'we don't want that type here' point of view  *

Disappointed but if he thinks he'll push Terry & Carvalho out of the Chelsea side, then I think he'll be in for shock. Might pick up a medal or two there mind

Bit gutted like, would have been a great signing. I can see why he'd want to play for a team in the Champions League with better players around him but I really think it could be a mistake on his part - he'll be another Parker or Duff where he'll on the bench more than off it (if he even gets regular first team footy). Damn shame, we could have offered him the smae money, nailed on first team footy week in, week out and probably after this next season regular European footy. Shame to see his talent wasted but it's his choice at the end of the day, he'll get international football and a decent wage whichever team he'd joined so I guess he's just happy to not have to turn out on the pitch much.

Let's hope that whoever Sam turns to now as his next defensive target is equally as good as Ben Haim, it's a shame we missed out on him but there are others. Who knows, as someone else has mentioned we could end up with him signing for us in a years time anyways.

Can't blame him for choosing Chewsea. If he backs his ability he thinks he'll get a chance and stay in the team, and then he's playing for a team in the CL with a chance at any number of trophies.

We could offer him a first team place guarenteed but other than that, he was always likely to choose them.

Shame as getting him in on a free leaves more cash to spend on other players.

I kinda knew we wouldn't get him as there were no real positive vibes from either Sam or him that gave the impression that we were in contention and let's face it, at the moment Chelsea has a more attractive appeal than we do.

In a way I hope he ends up as a bench warmer like Parker, Duff, & Wright-Phillips and lives to rue turning his back on us.

Shame we didn't get him but I'm sure we'll be in for more disappointments while the window's wide open.

Nah, all the best to him tbh. He has no nexus to us if you discount the rather tenuous Allardyce factor and he certainly isnt under any moral duty to blindly follow a previous manager about. Chelski are obviously criticised for being boring but they've got an awesome defence and he's a defender at the end of the day so theres no criticism there either. He has the opportunity to win trophies there and if he has ambitions to do that then presumably he has ambitions to be part of that starting line up.

Nee worries and all the best. Move on Sam, worth a punt but lets see who else we can attract.

How's he greedy/money-grabbing if you assume we'd have offered him the same kind of wages? If he thinks he'd good enough to get into the side at Chelsea, then it's a no-brainer really.

In far fewer words than me and all the more pithy for it. I'd like to be associated with the guitar playing gentleman's comments.

The media in recent days have suggested that we refused to meet Chelsea's £60k pw offer. Now that doesn't automatically make him a mercenary but we'd be naive to think that it didn't have a big influence on him. He's a decent defender but he's nothing amazing and realistically the only opportunities he's going to get next year will be because of injury and if he had've got some good advice he would've been told to avoid the mistakes of previous players, but instead his agent is a bent mate of Chelsea's who no doubt convinced him to join them.

Unfortunately whether he is "a decent defender but he's nothing amazing" he's still considerably better than anything we've had for a long long time.

Good luck to him hope he's ill or injured everytime we play them.

Tbf centre back was one position Chelsea were pretty thin on last season so I'd imagine he'd get quite a few games.

Well it's unlikely that Chelsea will have Terry and Carvalho injured so much next year and I'd say Chelsea will be after another CB after they kick Boulahrouz out.
