Glen 0
Liverpool have left West Ham fuming after launching an "insulting" £1m bid for midfielder Yossi Benayoun. (Various) Bolton defender Tal Ben Haim will snub former Trotters boss Sam Allardyce at Newcastle and instead join Chelsea. (The Sun) Manchester United will intensify their bid for a new striker after Louis Saha was ruled out for up to six months following knee surgery. (Daily Mirror) Goalkeeper Ian Walker is ready to leave Bolton to revive his career. (The Sun) West Brom are bidding to sign Celtic striker Craig Beattie for £750,000. (Various) Tottenham want Jermain Defoe to sign a new three-year contract but will sell the striker this summer if he does not commit himself to the club. (Various) Tell us your transfer rumours Back to top OTHER GOSSIP Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood and managing director Keith Edelman have held secret peace talks with American tycoon Stan Kroenke, whose acquisition of a 12 per cent stake in the club sparked takeover talk. (The Sun) Barcelona midfielder Deco will be glad to see the back of Real Madrid rival David Beckham, who is set to join Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy, because he believes the England star "has shown he is still among the best in the world". (Daily Mirror) Back to top AND FINALLY Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich hopes to bring some unity to the club by attending captain John Terry's wedding on Friday but manager Jose Mourinho will not be there. Geordie Boyo 24
Seems to me Allardyce has been pinning his hopes on signing Ben Haim with no real indication of going for any other defensive players. He said that he'd inquired about Rozehnal, but no bid or further contact with the player had been made.
Geordie Boyo 24
http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...OSE+ON+BEN+HAIM Chelsea look set to win the race to sign Bolton defender Tal Ben Haim. The 25-year-old is out-of-contract at the Reebok Stadium and has a host of top-clubs tracking him. His former Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has already confirmed his interest in luring him to St James' Park, but Chelsea now look to be leading the chase. The Blues almost signed Ben Haim in January - but they could not agree terms with Bolont, but they now look set to succeed in landing him on a Bosman transfer. Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has been quoted, confirming Ben Haim's arrival. "Ben Haim will arrive, we will discuss his contract and finalise the last details and we hope that he will sign the contract by tomorrow [Thursday," Kenyon is quoted in the Guardian. Chelsea have been working steadily at bolstering their squad, but they despute their tags of 'big spenders' all their new arrivals have cost them nothing with Steve Sidwell and Claudio Pizarro both arriving for nothing. Should Ben Haim sign then he is also likely to be joined by Alex, whom the club already all but own, from PSV Eindhoven. Another player said to be interesting Jose Mourinho again, is Hertha Berlin's Marko Pantelic. The Serbian striker, 28, could be landed for less than £3million - but a modest Pantelic is not shocked by Chelsea's interest. "I am not surprised Chelsea are interested in me," he said. "I have proved, both at Hertha Berlin and with the Serbia national team, that I can play at a high level and am good enough for top-tier clubs. "The knowledge that Mourinho wants me is flattering." geordieshandy 0
Hadly surprising, third choice at a Champions League semi-finalist, top two domestically club or mid table mediocrity.
Bombadil 0
Greedy bastard. He obviously prefers to warm the bench at Chelsea rather than be a first-teamer for us.

Chaser 1207
he'll be bench warming if he goes to Chelsea though so it leads me to question his desire to play football if he's happy to do that. He knows he'd walk into the team here

I was thinking that...but he could also be confident enough to earn and keep a place.
geordieshandy 0
He could well get plenty of games, look at the amount of times Essien turned out at centre half, and Ferriera. Mind they were canny unlucky with Terry being injured for prolonged periods, but it does look like Mourinho has little faith in the Dutch lad he brought in. Guest alex
Chelsea or us? Who would you choose in his shoes? No contest really. Shame if we don't get him but it's only June and I'm confident we'll get someone else if this doesn't come off for us.

Gemmill 44887
As said, if Ben Haim has the choice he'd have to be an absolute spaz to pick us over Chelsea.

tinofbeans 91
like a lot of things its just talk.... we need our back line sorting out by pre-season so they can actually play together. ben haim is a better player than boulahrouz but is 3rd choice at best at centre back.
