Guest stevieintoon Posted June 13, 2007 Share Posted June 13, 2007 I tell you what it is, maybe half of the players in each squad will be representing their countries at future European Championships and World Cups, if this is the level excitement we're going to have to put up with, fuck me, Germany 2006 will seem like footballing utopia in comparison. Five games, THREE GOALS, yes THREE, I've sat through four of the games, and honestly it's been absolutely desperate. In truth the only player in the England U21's who can create something from nothing bottled it and stayed at home, and we're one of the better teams! Utter pish. These teams are tactically incarcerated by management who care entirely about keeping clean sheets, rather than playing with creative freedom. It truely is ridiculous that we have got to the stage in football, where something which is little more than a youth tournament has turned to this ugly stifled spectacle. When you're young, if you're a huge football like I always have been, every second summer was filled with excitement in anticipation of the WC/EC, and it's shite when the year is an odd number. You're so bored you end up watching the Copa America as a kid. Honestly though if this is what we've got to look forward to in 4 to 8 years, I think viewing figures of Wimbledon and shitey fuckin cricket will go through the roof. THREE GOALS IN FIVE GAMES - 0.6 goals per game, no wonder the yanks think the sport is shite, pathetic and symptomatic of arsehole coaches in the modern game. Rant over. Zathras 296 Posted June 13, 2007 Share Posted June 13, 2007 Ironically, MLS is has moved in a very attacking direction recently. This season is averaging more than 2.5 goals per game. (171 goals in 65 games) And we didn't even have to enlarge the goals to do it! (In 1993 when the league was proposed, this was one of the things suggested to increase scoring.) I have found that international football has become a lot lower scoring though to be fair. You don't see the blowouts anymore. Or at least not when it isn't Australia vs. Vanuatu or USA vs. Barbados.
