ewerk 31603
Blades will take fight to Europe Sheffield United will turn to the European Commission for compensation if an independent arbitration panel fails to over-turn their relegation. The Blades are protesting at the Premier League's failure to dock West Ham points over the signing of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano. Blade chairman Kevin McCabe believes their relegation will be overturned. But he told BBC Radio Five Live that if the verdict goes against them he "would not say that's the end of the issue". McCabe added: "We have a trip to Brussels to meet the European Commissioner for culture and sport, Jan Figel, on Friday, so we are making our presentation there this week. "We'll go to the European Commission for them to opine. We believe we have maybe got a human rights issue because of the loss of jobs that has been established if we are relegated, the salaries that are reduced because of going from the Premiership to the Championship and those sort of issues." However McCabe accepted that: "If the arbitration were to go against us on Monday we recognise that we are relegated to the Championship. "But I don't believe the arbitration will go against us at all. A supporters' delegation headed to Parliament in London on Wednesday to canvas Government support for their battle. And McCabe said: "There was an injustice committed." McCabe is confident the club will be reinstated to the Premiership - and Professional Footballers' Association chairman Gordon Taylor also believes they have a "valid case". An arbitration panel on 18 June will hear the Blades' claim against the Premier League's failure to dock West Ham points over the Tevez saga. The Premier League had initially told Sheffield United, who were relegated on the last day of the season, that they were wasting their time and money. But McCabe claims officials have since told the club they will regain their top-flight status if their claim is successful. The issue has dragged on since March when the Hammers were charged by the Premier League with breaching rules in relation to the signings of Argentine duo Tevez and Javier Mascherano. Tevez and Mascherano, who has since left for Liverpool, joined the club in August. West Ham were found guilty of acting improperly and withholding vital documentation over the duo's ownership but they escaped a points deduction and Tevez was allowed to continue playing. He was one of the major factors in the club's late escape from the drop but the Blades have vowed to fight the Premier League's decision. McCabe stated: "I think the Premier League accept they wish the arbitration was not happening. "But in the knowledge it is happening and it cannot be prevented, then if the decision is overturned we should be reselected to the Premier League. "Since we really looked into the whys and the wherefores of the Tevez affair it became apparent that a wrong decision was made." PFA chief Taylor added: "I think they have a real valid case. I just think it's sad that this has been a shadow hanging over the season. "You've got to give credit to West Ham for the way they battled back and to a lot of those supporters and a lot of those players. They are innocent in this. "But there were people involved at the club who knew what they were doing and they are the ones who should be held to account." Human rights ffs, if it goes against them then they'll just have to get over it.

Barney 0
This situation is a disgrace If it had been Wigan instead of Wistam then points would have been docked. If it had been us in Sheff Utd's place we all would have been apoplectic with rage. Is there any football supporter who believes that the punishment was sufficient? I haven't met any that didn't think that points should have been deducted. And, Barney, Accrington Stanley were up for the same offence but got the same punishment i.e a fine. But everyone knew that the fact they got a fine, and no points deduction, was as a direct result of Wistam being up for the same offence at a later date. The powers that be knew that if A.Stanley got points deducted then Wistam would have to have had the same punishment. This whole business fuckin' stinks imo. West Ham should be relegated and Sheff Utd should be reinstated. We all know that it aint gonna happen though That's a fuckin' joke. Didn't MK Dons get a points deduction for the same offense? It's become blatantly obvious that the fine was worthless, seeing them (attempting to)sign Bent for £17m.

snakehips 0
Just had a look. AFC Wimbledon were docked 18 points by the Ryman League for fieldling an ineligible player - some lad called Darlington. This is probably not a precedent as it is the Ryman League and not The Premier League - just guessing though. I'm sure Sheff Utd's lawyers will be a bit more on the ball than I am
Barney 0
FA Trophy: Expelled from competition. After beating Conference side Gravesend & Northfleet 1-0 in a fourth round match, the club was charged by the Football Association with fielding an ineligible player, Jermaine Darlington. On 25 January 2007, a disciplinary hearing decided that the club was to be expelled from the competition and was also ordered to pay back the £7000 in prize money that it had won. Gravesend & Northfleet were subsequently reinstated into the competition. For the same offence, AFC Wimbledon also received an 18 point penalty deduction and £400 fine from the Isthmian League. However, after an appeal by the club against the deduction on March 26, the F.A reduced the punishment to three points and £400, admitting themselves that the penalty imposed was "excessive". Barney 0
Clubs await new season fixtures The fixtures for the 2007/08 season are set to be announced at 1000 BST. All 92 clubs, from the Premiership down to League Two, are waiting to discover who they will meet on 11 August. Premiership newcomers Sunderland, Birmingham City and Derby County are all preparing for life in the top division once more after promotion. The fixtures for Scotland's league clubs will also be released, with Gretna set to find out who their opponents are on their SPL debut. Dagenham & Redbridge and Morecambe are set to taste League football for the first times in their history after they gained promotion from the Conference. Sheffield United - relegated from the Premiership - are trying to win back their place in the top flight. They believe West Ham should have been docked points instead of being fined £5.5m for signing third-party agreements in contravention of league rules when they signed Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano. An arbitration panel on 18 June will hear the Blades' claim and plc chairman Kevin McCabe believes they could be reinstated. However, on Thursday, Sheffield United's fixtures will be that of a Championship club.

Kevin Carr's Gloves 4090
Cant they just swap West ham's fixtures for Sff's? WHU should be relegated for continuing to fie;d an inelligible (sp) player for a whole season. But someone in the FA should be sacked for not sorting it out sooner.
