The Blades were knocked out of the league on the last day of the season following a defeat by Wigan. Sheffield supporters said rivals West Ham United should have lost points and been relegated instead for using a player who was not properly registered. The actor and 100 other supporters will meet MPs on Wednesday lunchtime. In a statement on the club's website Mr Bean, who comes from Sheffield, said he hoped the politicians would listen. 'Shown sympathy' He said: "I think I'm in a position to express my opinion and that of many Sheffield United fans aggrieved by the decision that was made by the original panel. "My message to MPs would be to thank them for the support we've had - I think we've had 40-plus MPs getting behind us and they've shown sympathy for our cause." 606: DEBATE Is a reversal of the decision likely to happen? An arbitration panel on 18 June will hear the Blades' claim against the Premier League's failure to dock West Ham points over the transfer saga involving Argentina striker Carlos Tevez. The Blades are challenging a decision to fine West Ham rather than dock them points and cancel Tevez's registration. The Premier League had initially told Sheffield United that they were wasting their time and money. However, club officials now believe they could regain their top-flight status if their claim is successful. ewerk 31604
Fucking stupid idea, let the footballing authorities sort it out.
Barney 0
I don't see it happening. The fixtures will be out at that stage and both teams will have their pre-season plannig sorted by then in all probablility. I do think West Ham should have been docked, as every other team to breach those rules has been treated that way. It was all in SheffUtd's hands to stay up though. Guest alex
I don't think the decision will be overturned. They probably should have been docked points though. In February rather than when the decision was eventually made.

peasepud 59
I dont think this a laughing matter though, we really need to take this seriously otherwise he may threaten to do another series of Sharpe.
luckyluke 2
Politics should never be involved in these matters. Although I think the FA cocked up with this, it was their decision to make. That said Sean Bean played Sharpe so he deserves whatever he wants.
Tom 14021
Well if it happened to Newcastle we'd probably do the same, apart from Ant & Dec could keep right out of it, ''Ant and Decs Saturday Night Relegation fight!'' or something Edited June 13, 2007 by T-Keith

snakehips 0
This situation is a disgrace If it had been Wigan instead of Wistam then points would have been docked. If it had been us in Sheff Utd's place we all would have been apoplectic with rage. Is there any football supporter who believes that the punishment was sufficient? I haven't met any that didn't think that points should have been deducted. And, Barney, Accrington Stanley were up for the same offence but got the same punishment i.e a fine. But everyone knew that the fact they got a fine, and no points deduction, was as a direct result of Wistam being up for the same offence at a later date. The powers that be knew that if A.Stanley got points deducted then Wistam would have to have had the same punishment. This whole business fuckin' stinks imo. West Ham should be relegated and Sheff Utd should be reinstated. We all know that it aint gonna happen though

maggiespaws 0
IIRC it wouldnt have mattered would it? If WH won their last game they definitly stayed up. It never should have gone to the last game. WH should have been relegated long before then. If it was us I'd be furious and feel completely cheated. The only reason WH weren't relegated was because of Tevez. The very person who should not have been playing for them.

A dangerous precedent set by poor leadership from the FA. I'd be furious too but no protest will change anything now.
snakehips 0
Can anyone recall the punishment sunlun received all those years ago? Shortly after getting the mackem job, Monkey Heed Reid 'signed' Dominic Matteo and played him before he was registered. I can't recall if it was a league or cup game. I guess they would probably have been fined, but I can't be certain. Surely if they had been docked points, the precedent would have been set and Sheff Utd would be on a winner now?? A fitting punishment would surely have been for sulun to be demoted to the Conference. And a 20 pt deduction. And play behind closed doors for half the season. Make that 2/3 the season. Okay, the whole season. Edited June 13, 2007 by snakehips
