Craig 6682
Can't stand this twat..... Hello Robbo. Hello son - you all right? Yes thanks - you? I'm a bit hot! We're used to it being a bit chillier up here. When it's minus three we walk around in t-shirts and shorts so we've got nothing left to take off. Nice thought! Now on Wednesday you gave your thoughts about Michael Owen's move to Newcastle and within nanoseconds we had a shedload of emails from Geordies heaping scorn and shame upon you. Surprise surprise! Steve in Newcastle says: What are you on about, you smog monster muppet? Last week you were saying it was ludicrous to say someone had a 100% record after two games, now you're saying Newcastle are the second worst team in the Premiership on the basis of three matches! What a t***! I'd be interested to hear your views on Newcastle at Christmas, when Michael Owen will already be in double figues and we'll be looking down at Middlesbrough from our lofty perch! I see! Now before you answer this, I suppose you should explain what a smog monster is. Well it's because of the fine tradition of heavy industry in the Teesside area which creates a lot of smog, so people with weedy constitutions from the south, Christopher, find it difficult to breathe when they come up here. Now what was this bloke saying again? I lost interest after two sentences - mind you that's pretty standard for conversations with Geordies. I hope they aren't looking down on us come Christmas because that will mean Middlesbrough are in the bottom three. Still, given the way we've started that's not exactly out of the question is it? And yes I am basing my comments on the first three or four matches - not because of Newcastle's position in the table but the way they've been playing. The only thing that's keeping Geordie fans going, apart from the arrival of this strange little Scouse messiah, is that Sunderland are beneath them. Surely things will improve though? Well they will if Owen has any chances created for him. They've just signed Nobby back - that will help. Well in a way that was a better signing than Owen. But come Christmas when Steve is "looking down from his lofty perch", I doubt whether Souness will still be there. If you sign a player of Owen's calibre and nothing happens you can guarantee you're going to be out the door. Souness was lucky to survive August - most of them don't. I take your point, but second worst team in the Premiership? What about the likes of Wigan and Portsmouth? OK, joint second worst. What is not in dispute is that Sunderland are the clear winners. I could have a bottle of Newky Brown with a Geordie in a hostelry of his choice and talk about Sunderland until we're blue in the face. They are definitely head and shoulders beneath everybody else. On the same theme, Dave in the UK says: Robbo's comments have a tint of jealousy about them, he should have mentioned that there were more people at St James Park to welcome Owen than Boro get at a regular home game. He's right of course. Twenty thousand people turned up to go and see a lad on the pitch holding a child. I've seen politicians be less unscrupulous with their own children. I really wanna go to Liverpool but just to prove to the fans that I didn't really want to be at Liverpool, look my child is wearing a Newcastle shirt. It was her that turned me - she's always been a Newcastle fan. I don't believe for a minute that he really wants to be there. And I'm certainly not jealous of 20,000 people turning up just to see a new player take a bow. I feel pity for them, frankly. They're more sentimental than Cockneys. It's unbelievable. The whole thing was a bit cheesy I have to say. Exactly. I could sort of understand it with Shearer - you know, the prodigal son returns home and that. But then he was supposed to save their bacon and nothing's happened apart from they got into a few finals which they lost, a bit like Middlesbrough - but at least we have more of a sense of proportion about things. But all this stuff about harking back to the glory days - when were the glory days for Newcastle? Jackie Milburn - that's it! A lot of our best players come from the northeast - but they don't stay there because they wanna win summat! And I'm including Middlesbrough in that. Just a little dose of reality now and then would do Newcastle the power of good. And what about those 20,000 people - does no-one work in Newcastle? They do work - but what they work hardest at is avoiding work. You should ring around some of the leading employers in the north east region and find out what the excuses were for not turning up. I bet there were a few 'summer colds'. I don't get it, it gets ridiculed when it's stated that we're the most passionate fans in the country and then when it gets proved (in the sort of fashion it was on Wednesday), people don't understand it... They'll never admit it, but it's evidently envy of massive proportions in my eyes...
