Perruvian international Nolberto Solano has signed a new one-year deal with Newcastle United.

The midfielder played an important role for The Magpies last term, often in an unfamiliar role at right-back, and Sam Allardyce has chosen to retain him for the coming season.

Solano first joined The Magpies back in 1998 and, after an 18-month hiatus at Aston Villa, re-established himself as a popular figure on Tyneside after returning to the club in August 2005.

New boss Allardyce has now signalled that Solano will form part of his future plans for the club by handing the 32-year-old an extended deal at St James' Park. The midfielder will be fresh for the new campaign as he has not been included in Peru's squad for the upcoming Copa America tournament in Venezuela.
