Park Life 71
The incredulity of St Thomas by Caravaggio is fucking great art. Emin is just a chancer. She does look like the type who's undergarments have that light piss aroma.

ewerk 31672
I don't understand modern art (or any type of art for that matter), I mean £50m for a skull covered in diamonds? Why? Surely there are better ways to spend that money.

The Fish 11116
I like Jack Vettriano. I know it's not challenging, I know it's not particularly original, I know it's pretty simple style... but surely Art is what you like and not neccesarily about what critics tell you is important or revolutionary. Guest alex
Following on from what JaffaMiddsCake was saying: I was in Venice one time and there happened to be an exhibition of Herynomous Bosch (sp?) at the Doges' Palace. Amazing stuff and so far ahead of its time it is unreal. He believed the world was the Devil's intestines and we were just 'passing through' if you'll pardon the expression. I was also in Florida when it was my 18th birthday so I asked my Mam and Dad if we could go to the Salvador Dali museum there. I liked him before but in the flesh his stuff is fantastic. Especially his huge masterworks like 'The Hallucinogenic Torreodor' which took years to complete. Jack Vettriano though Fish? He's just a greeting card designer iyam
Renton 22640
What was the name of that artist who filled and sealed cans with his own shit? Anyway, according to the Times yesterday it turns out he was full of shit and they were full of plaster.

He made about 100 iirc and sold them for an average 40 grand a pop. Not bad business. Succeeded in his point too that modern art is literally shit. We managed to tag along with a guided tour which was very informative as there is so much going on in his paintings. I got a really good Dali book there too. The tour guide has a Dali moustache anarl.

Renton 22640
Dali's not really rated by a lot of artists and didn't he describe himself as a con artist? Regardless, I quite like his work even if some of it is bordering on kitsch.

I think that is a lot to do with the sofa based on Mae West's (iirc) lips and the lobster phone (seen that in the Tate Modern once) and his involvement in films in the 60's etc. If you see his paintings in the flesh though I think you can't fail to be impressed. They're technically superb too.

Just remember that apart from designing a brandy bottle (Osbourne I think and very nice it is too) he did the Chupa Chups logo. That might be why some considered him to not be a serious artist.
