Meenzer 15871
I have absolutely no problem with Big Issue sellers, think it's a great way to help homeless people and provide them with something to do. Can't see why anyone would have a problem with them, unless they were unduly aggressive. I deal with ease with the wallah's who sell the Hamburg version (sort of local events/ arty stuff)...Just tell them I don't read German. Bye. Ah yes, good old Hints & Cunts. Difficult to explain that one to visiting foreigners. It's not a terrible read, but when you can get a Morgenpost for 50c if you want something you can happily leave behind on the train... Have they got the whole "handing out free papers" thing over there yet? I still have fond memories of "15 Uhr Aktuell", which quickly came and went. Metro/Thelondonpaper/London Lite "distributors" are the Big Issue sellers it's morally acceptable to kick.
ewerk 31600
Ewerk was spot on on N-O btw when he said that foreigners should be welcomed here but shouldn't get any benefits until they've worked for a while. Different if it's genuine refugees but people from Eastern Europe don't fall into that category. Just a small point but worth mentioning. An EC immigrant cannot get benefits if they have not paid in sufficient NI contributions. That's the whole point of the EC-they're economic immigrants. I was mistaken, what I was saying was the case before 2004 but changed before the accession of the Eastern European states. However, as far as I'm aware, the families of workers still have a right to come into Britain and claim benefits regardless of their own NI contributions.
