zico martin 90
So I know he's gone on loan to Villa for a year but what's stopping us calling him back either when our midfield is further decimated by injury, or just before they play us? seriously what are the rules to this loan agreement as Id like to see him back at some stage. smoggeordie 0
I think a year on loan and regular 1st team football will do him the world of good and he'll come back a much better player
Dr Gloom 22143
i think year long loans usually mean that the player will stay at the club even if he picks up an injury. he's basically theirs for a year...no strings attached.
Kid Dynamite 7169
TBH he would prob play 3 games and get 5 sub appearances this season if he was lucky. might as well see him reach his potential at villa and then get him back in th eteam when hes a better player. bet bobby is spitting that we are flogging all his young english stars! milner, ambrose, jenas etc

So does this mean we cant get him back until the year is up, no matter what?
sweetleftpeg 0
We should have kept him and got Nobby to teach him how to cross. Seriously.

Papa Lazaru 0
On these year long deals we can't call him back at anytime, even if we had an injury crisis, he's there for a year. They could cancel it at anytime if they wanted though.
Barney 0
We should have kept him and got Nobby to teach him how to cross. Seriously. 27084[/snapback] That's what I immediately thought, SLP. I do think that Milner can and will fulfill his potential, and who better than Nobby to learn from? He has a year of pretty much guranteed 1st team football at a big club, and under a manager who knows and likes him. I think that should give him a huge help. Also, providing he does come back, he can learn everything he needs to know from Nobby after this season. I mean, Milner has great pace and loves taking on the full backs. The main things he's missing from his game are 1st touch, crossing and picking out a final ball. Things that not many do better than Solano. Papa Lazaru 0
Ideally we'd have kept Millner and he could have learned fom Nobby while he was here. But probably the only way we could get Nobby was to loan them Millner as they had no time to find a replacement for Nobby so we provided one. ewerk 31195
We wouldn't have got Nobby if we hadn't let Milner go so I'm happy we did. As has been said a years experience of regular football will help him and us and him in the long run. O'Leary rates him higher than Souness and as he already knows him I'm sure he'll help him develop.
Dr Gloom 22143
i think milner lacks the pace to cut it as a top class winger.
Barney 0
Solano/Beckham aren't incredibly pacy players either. But both were regularly in the top assists-providers column at the end of each season. If Milner can work on the stuff that Solano has (i.e. that 1st touch, ability to spot a run, pin-point crossing) we could have a quality little player. He does work hard when he's on the flanks. He really needs a lot of work though to become the finished article-whatever position it's in. Hopefully this move will benefit all 3 parties (Villa, NUFC and Milly).

Barney 0
From a Villa perspective, they weren't left without a right winger and with no time left to sign someone.

If it wasn't football, I'd agree with you, but Villa are directly competing with us for a European spot and the Worthington Cup.
Barney 0
It was more to say that everyone benefits from the deal. Jeez, bit of PMa on this board wouldn't go amiss fom you Tino's Foreskin....
Guest alex
I would be inclined to agree, not wishing any good on Villa. The trouble is, if he plays badly for them and loses confidence etc., that is to our long-term detriment as well as their's in the short term. Presumably he won't be allowed to play against us though, or did they insist he was allowed as part of the Nobby deal?
