Renton 22507
We'd be mad to let someone go for 4.5 million and then buy him again for twice the price two years down the line. The market moves quickly in football Jonny, and prices are going up all of the time, I think the true value of Bellamy is at least equal to that of Owen. Look at Shearer we had him, stuck him in goal at a trial then had to break the world transfer record for him 10 years later. I don't think the market is going up and I think it's laughable to think Bellamy is worth as much as Owen. The comparison with Shearer is laughable too. How's the comparison with Shearer laughable, because he never actually played for us? Laughable isn't the word for that pal, maybe dodgy comparison but laughable. The market is clearly going up, dear me £10m for unproven 17 year old full backs and it's stayed the same? Oh dear.
Sima 0
The market for British born players is nothing short of a fucking disgrace tbh. You could get Gillardino for circa £9m ffs
ewerk 31603
I don't want Bellamy for the same reason I don't want Barton, they're both pricks. We'd barely sign anyone though if the criteria was "NO PRICKS ALLOWED". Whilst I think Bellamy is a decent player he is a bigger prick than most. We don't need a player who's going to try and break him team mate's legs with a golf club, or throw a chair at the assistant manager or demand a first team place. The are equally good players with less attitude problems available for the same or less money who I would prefer over Bellamy.

As you recognise, Shearer wasn't a first team player, he was just a schoolboy on our books given one trial. I don't see the comparison with Bellamy at all. In general, I think the transfer market is relatively stagnant at the minute (unless Chelsea are involved), but still ridiculously high. I do think it will go up yet again though, when the new Sky money filters through. Edited June 11, 2007 by Renton

You could get Gillardino for circa £9m ffs I agree and it's spiralled beyond belief since Bellamy left to contradict Renton. Gareth Bale might be brilliant, but how many players have been brilliant at 17/18 and turned shite. Michael O'Neill anyone? £10m for Bale is a scandal. I've seen a bit of Bale he's certainly promising, I mean £10m though TEN MILLION. Barca signed Eto'o two/three years ago for that. FWIW I've seen this lad that play for Feyenoord, and Holland U21's three or four times, and honestly, I'm going to tell you this now, he's the best young full back I've EVER seen in my life. Honest. His name is Royston Drenthe, and would be available for about £3m, he makes Bale look like Lee Naylor, every time I've seen him including last night he's been the best player on the pitch by a million miles. Superb defensively, strong, quick as fuck, absolutely superb going forward, crosses like Beckham but from the left, and dribbles like Gazza at his peak, if you think I'm making this up, watch the lad, he's absolutely brilliant, and I'm telling you now, without even a shadow of a doubt, he'll go on to be one of if not THE best left back in Europe if he continues like this. Guest alex
I actually think Bellamy should have played more for Liverpool this year than he did and I think his leaving is more to do with the golf club carry on. Not sure about getting him back though. It depends on several other factors. I'd be quite happy, as I said on N-O, if we got Anelka and Bellamy and lost Owen. Make that Martins intead of Owen and I'd be even happier.
ewerk 31603
Like who of the players who would come right now? Tbh I don't know who is available at the minute nor could I be bothered finding out, although Anelka would be a better option for the same money, when £14m is the figure being bandied about for Henry it makes £9m for Bellamy look like silly money. Papa Lazaru 0
The main reason Bellamy's fee is way above what we got is because he was sold for a joke price in the first place thanks to dickheads Souness and Fat Fred telling the whole world he was to blame for everything wrong at NUFC, wasn't that good, didn't score enough and that they were desperate to get rid of him. But for those two cretins he could have gone for £9-10m in the first place. I wouldn't want to pay £9m for him now because there is an injury risk, though he seems to be better in recent times with that, and there is the baggage that comes with him. But i would be happy to see him back if we lost one of our strikers.
BigAl 0
Since leaving here Bellamy didn't fit in at Celtic, Blackburn, Liverpool and now rumour has it that he wants to come back to us!! The man is a talented player no doubt about it but he could start a fight in a phone box! Best left alone we need to move on and the recent clear out of a few bad eggs was a move in the right direction, we don't need Bellamy back. The mans a prize tool. How exactly did he not fit in at Celtic or Blackburn. Celtic didnt have the money to sign him and he was a success at Blackburn? That's it, he was always using Celtic as a short term solution to either allow him back here (if Souness got sacked as he should have) or waiting for another prem club to sign him. Celtic would have loved him to stay. And Blackburn wanted him despertaely to stay but the clause they'd agreed to allowed him to leave for a bigger and better club. Craig 6702
I don't think he's anywhere near the player he was when he was playing here alongside Shearer. Pish, utter pish even. He's older, he's slower and despite all that's gone before him, he still doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. Consensus amongst Liverpool fans is they want rid of him too. He ended the best season of his career just 12 months ago, and lets be honest he's had some great games for the dippers, and at one stage was part of the first choice front two. He couldn't handle the squad rotation stuff though, but to say he's not the same player is ridiculous. If anything he's better now than he was say in 2003 and 2004. Some of his finishing in recent years has been absolute top draw, so many examples at Blackburn, his hattrick at Dundee United, and that astonishing volley against Aberdeen, I want Bellamy back here more than anything. He knew the squad rotation was going to be in place so to say he couldn't handle it shows a display of narrow-mindedness on his part. He's had some decent games this season but I think he's part of a better squad that he was here. Difference is he was a key player here, there he was a small fish and therefore blended in. He's not worth us throwing £9m at IMO. Let me remind u, Liverpool fans want rid of him - if he's 'all that', surely they'd be wanting to keep ahold of him! The murderers wanted rid of Houllier too, who's been brilliant for Lyon, so I wouldn't pay any attention to that. His heart is with the toon the same as Owen's is with Liverpool. As for this yard of pace he's lost - nah. Watch his goal at Fratton Park last season, and get back to me, running WITH the ball I may add. Comments like that are neither warranted nor welcome.
