He actually played really well in that match against Arsenal when he cleverly pass the ball to Given's forehead. Which probably sums him up - even when he's playing well he's liable to drop the odd clanger. That was his problem. You might be the world's best defender, but if you regularly lose your team games by awful individual mistakes you are a liability regardless of the great things you do in the rest of the time.
