TRANSFER RUMOURS

Newcastle want Manchester City's Joey Barton and are prepared to let fellow midfielder Scott Parker move to West Ham for £8m. (Daily Mirror)

Fuck off! May as well keep Parker if that were the case.

Mixed feelings about Barton. He's another Bowyer in baggage and the potential shite he brings. Is he any better than Parker, I think yes because the man has a determination we haven't seen in a Newcastle jersey for a while.

Also unlike when Bowyer signed for Newcastle he is on top of his game and striving to constantly improve, he has that desire to be selected for England and it could be the thing that Sam can use to fix his head.

But lets be honest, if we were to pay any more than 3m for him then it would be too much considering citeh want shot of him, then if wist ham want to give us 8m for the ballerina it could actually be good business.

(Plus there is no way Dire would not perform when lined up next Barton for fear of his life!)

NEWCASTLE boss Sam Allardyce is considering a swoop for controversial City midfielder Joey Barton.

When it appeared that Barton might leave the Blues last season, Newcastle wined and dined the City man at St James' Park before a game against Chelsea in an attempt to lure him to Tyneside but on that occasion the 24-year-old decided to stay put.

Now Allardyce is set to renew interest as he sees the once-capped England international as the man to anchor the side in the same way Kevin Nolan did at Bolton.

The key to a move north east for Barton could well be the future of his England squad rival Scott Parker, reputedly a summer transfer target for West Ham who are ready to take him back to London for a fee of £7m.

That deal would appeal to Allardyce who could make a profit and arguably have a like-for-like full England international in his engine room.

The Newcastle boss faces his stiffest competition from Everton for the midfielder though the Merseysiders will want assurances about Barton's future conduct before they take the plunge.

City want the full £5.5m escape clause contained in Barton's contract before they do business with anyone and, if a realistic bid is not forthcoming, then they may leave the new manager and the courts to have the final say.

The Blues' internal enquiry, instigated by former manager Stuart Pearce, has been shelved pending the result of Greater Manchester Police's investigation of a training bust-up between the England international and Ousmane Dabo, who later filed a complaint.

As most of the witnesses who are expected to be interviewed are away on holiday, those investigations are highly unlikely to be completed before the players return for pre-season training in the first week of July.

A new boss will be at the helm by then and may even take a different view to that of Pearce, who had told Barton he would never play for a team of his again.

I think Barton is a better player than Parker, but the baggage he brings is not worth it.

I think he's more like what we need anyway, although I agree with your second point too.

It's not rocket science, the lad has a proven track record of being an absolute prick and it seems he is disliked even by his fellow professionals, he's not worth the hassle.

What Barton has done isn't that bad imo. I don't doubt he's a twat and have reservations about signing him. I would also be surprised if it did much to improve the alleged dressing room divisions either. I'd have some faith in Allardyce to get the best out of him and he's more what we need in central midfield than Parker. Either way I think an £8million bid for Parker would be too good to turn down.

Do you reckon? Putting out cigars on youth players, beating up 15 year old Everton fans, kicking the shit out of teamates? If we were any other club I'd say give him a chance, but at our club and in this city players with bad reps just get worse.

Agreed you could argue that what he's done isn't too bad, but what he did was very disruptive, chinning a team mate (although I'd imagine that happens on the training ground a fair bit), publicly slagging off the team, and didn't he also put out a cigar in the eye of a trainee ??

Not worth hanging for but not conducive for harmony in the dressing room.

Seriously? Putting a lit cigar out in a young player's eye, getting into a fight with a 15 year old Everton fan and then biting Richard Dunne's hand when he tried to break it up. Then despite these two sackable offences he decides to submit a transfer request after City had the cheek to offer him a new contract on double his money. And not to mention his most recent transgression or the fact that he won't be getting an England call up due to the fact that most of the squad don't like him.

The lad will be trouble.

Worse than what Tony Adams or Jermaine Pennant did? Worse than what Woodgate did (it emerged during the trial that a witness saw him stamp on the lad while he was lying on the floor iirc)? Worse than anything George Best did? Worse than what Gazza's done? I'm not saying he won't be trouble, I agreed with Jimbo, I just think people are slightly hypocritical when it comes to people like Barton (and Bowyer for that matter) as they seem to be utter twats. I just don't think he's actually done anything that bad in the grand scheme of things.

Agreed, if every arsehole footballer was banned from lacing on a pair of boots, some of the best players in the world would never have played.

Although I do feel very uneasy at the prospect of him in the Newcastle dressing room.

I think the way he has treated City, with the latest incident in particular, in response to the way the club treated him is probably the most damning indictment on him (and his agent) tbh.

The difference between those players and Barton is that Barton has attacked his own team mates on 3 occasions, not exactly good for dressing room harmony which supposedly needs to be improved.

All I'm saying is that this club is shit at dealing with troublemakers, so buying one is a recipe for disaster.

Is it the club or Robson/Souness/Roeder's fault?

One thing that always impressed me at Bolton was they never had any real trouble at the club, even though they had Anelka, Diouf and Campo on the books.

Can Allardyce get the best out of Barton as well as sorting out his behaviour? He obviously thinks he can if he's trying to sign him, I have my doubts but I would never of thought he would have sorted Diouf out like he did.
