According to today's News of the World Mike Ashley has a 5 year plan to turn Newcastle United into a global brand to rival Manchester United.

£100m transfer kitty for Allardyce

Increased capacity of SJP tp 60,000

Hotel, Casino and expanded corporate facilitys

World wide Newcastle footballing academy's

All sounds good, but surely before a club can rival the likes of ManUre it needs success on the pitch, and to do that would £100m be enough ??

Out problem has been money has not been spent wisely. Look at the spending of Liverpool and Arsenal and where they are compared to us. Is 100M enough? well, Id hope that was on top of revenue generated by the club now, otherwise thats £20M per season which is what we'd expect now. Depends how its structured etc. Maybe some now and more if we got into Europe etc.

So, not so much is it enough, but more would it be used well.

It's plenty enough money IMO. What has got us into the state we are is not lack of funds, it's poor management decisions from the Manager all the way up!

Money has been made available to us and we've wasted it. Rather than piss him off by telling him he should stay loyal and commit himself to the club, we should be using Michael Owen as a bargaining tool for signing quality players.

How many over the years joined us excited by the idea of playing alongside Alan Shearer?

The only problem is that if we do have that sort of money to spend then clubs are likely to inflate the asking price when we come calling in the same way they do if Chelsea are interested.

It's having the money definately to start with.

But then it's getting all the backroon stuff right too.

It's getting the right manager.

And it's giving that manager TIME to build and achieve (no manager wins everything all the time, even with infinate cash).

And frankly it's a big dollop of luck too.

£100 million = Five world-class player or Ten very good premiership players (if spent correctly).

I would settle for 8 very good players and one world class player ;)

£100M is not enough.

Souness spent £50M and that made us shitter.

So if Souness was still in charge and we gave him £200m to spend, do you think he'd do a better job?

Nowt like totally missing the point is there? ;)

From .com:

Club in limbo?

This week's proposed meeting between the board of Newcastle United and Mike Ashley and his team could be the most crucial meeting in the club's history.

If an agreement cannot be reached between the two major shareholders - Freddy Shepherd and Ashley - then the inevitable and protracted shares battle could see the club in limbo for months.

After two transfer windows of virtual inactivity new manager Sam Allardyce needs to get cracking on rebuilding the side if another Premiership season is not to be wasted.

Allardyce himself must feel in a state of confusion with the prospect of a new boss and regime just weeks after being given the job by Shepherd.

With alleged transfer targets already being snapped up by rivals - Spurs securing Southampton's Gareth Bale - the next few weeks are critical.

The noises coming from the current Chairman seem to indicate that he will not relinquish power easily but in the race to reach over 50% of the shareholding, Ashley is already coming off the final bend.

Shepherd has rightly stated that, "There is nothing Mike Ashley can do with this club unless he gets 75 per cent of the stake.

"He can’t take full control, he can’t change resolutions or the club’s articles of association."

However, Ashley has made it clear that his offer is only conditional on reaching 50%, not the 75% needed to delist the company and make it private or alter its capital structure, rights issues and bonus issues.

This leaves Shepherd with three alternatives:

- reach accommodation with Ashley and work together on the board

- refuse to sell and remain as a passive shareholder

- sell

Ashley's offer states he will seek to delist if he gets to 75% but he also says that in the event of a delisting,

"It is unlikely that Newcastle United Shareholders who do not accept the offer will receive the same level of future dividend payments (if any) in respect of their Newcastle United shares as have been previously declared and paid."

Of course that can't happen until 75% is reached but with a 51% holding he can decide the make up of the board, chairman, executives and the dividend policy.

In other words, if Ashley reached 51%, Freddy can take £23m and walk away or he can hold on but without the limelight of being chairman, without the £1m a year salary, and without a £2m a year dividend.

It's all set to be another interesting week on Barrack Road....

If Shepherd doesn't sell up quickly, he wants shot, the greedy bastard.

If he doesnt do the right thing one way or another (and enable the club to move on quickly to sort things out for next year) he will quickly become public enemy no 1...

oh...

If he fuck this up and delays everything then he will indeed be the biggest cunt around and not in anyway the fan he claims to be. It would just prove everyone right in thinking he's an arsehole though. If he does piss us about then i hope he gets loads of shit of people on an almost continuous basis!

If he's that much of a cock and he gets his money I doubt he'll be too bothered tbh.

Probably even enjoy it, its attention and recognition for something after all!
