NJS 4549 Posted Thursday at 15:46 Share Posted Thursday at 15:46 I hadn't heard about this - I used to use calibre years ago when I had some torrented books but to be honest I only read on my kindle or phone now anyway so downloading them seems pointless - unless as you say you intend to move to another reader. Gemmill 49267 Posted Thursday at 15:49 Share Posted Thursday at 15:49 I'm just doing it cos Bezos is a bellend for pulling this move. I'll still no doubt buy all sorts of other stuff off there.

Yes, it's in preparation for "pulling" books that will get banned by the mango Mussolini. Bezos has bent the knee.
Gemmill 49267 Posted Thursday at 16:27 Share Posted Thursday at 16:27 You'll always be able to continue to read them on the kindle app or on a Kindle, but let's say you wanted to change to a different type of ereader and you didn't want to buy them again... In the current world today, you can do that cos you can download it, remove Amazon's DRM (all perfectly legally, it's your book), and put it on a different ereader. From 26th Feb, the ability to get a book from Amazon onto your PC will be removed.

If so, have you seen this business where Amazon will no longer allow you to download your books to your computer from Feb 26th. Which basically means you don't own the books you've bought. Anyway, there's a script you can use to get all your books downloaded before the deadline. I'm doing that, stripping the DRM off them all, and then getting a different e-reader. Video below showing you how to use the script. Then you just use Calibre (free software) to turn them into ebooks that can be read anywhere. But that bit can wait, it's getting them from Amazon that can't. The fucking cunts

Now I've done this can I convert them to another format in the future depending on what device I'm thinking of using it on?

Yep, there's a decent enough video from a lass explaining how to convert them to kepub which is Kobo format. But if you do everything she describes and select epub instead of kepub at the end, that's at least you with all your Kindle books DRM stripped and in an open file format.

No it's perfectly legal. If you strip them and then upload them to torrent sites for others to read for nowt, that's illegal, but you paid for these so you can do what you like with them for your own personal use. You could put them all on a USB and pop it up your arse if you fancy. It'd make a noise when it hit the bedroom wall though.

FFS, They should be mine already I've paid for them but I've now downloaded them to my laptop, as far I'm understanding they're now mine 100% and can't be deleted or altered by Amazon. So..... If I want to read my now permanent books on a non-amazon device I'll have to convert them as described, what I'm saying is can I do the converting of what is now on my hard drive at any time I want or do I have to do it by the 26th? It's not clear but I wouldn't have thought so?
Gemmill 49267 Posted Thursday at 19:45 Share Posted Thursday at 19:45 You can do it whenever. But to be extra safe, a USB stick popped up your khyber might be an idea. 1

Ok, thanks for the answer, no USB stick at present so the Khyber will remain un-invaded for now.
