Steven Taylor or Steve Howey?

Just curious as to who people think the better footballer is/was. Last two centre halves to come through the ranks with any credibility. Howey may have started as a shite centre forward but he did well at centre half. Still not convinced by Taylor but he is getting a bit better.

 

Howey everyday for me. If he wasnt injured so often he would have had a very good career. He still had one tbh

can't really judge because we've seen Howey throughout his career and Taylor is still in the early stages.

 

For me, Taylor has more potential, whether he meets it or not is another matter entirely

You must be Wacky junior, first time I saw Howey when on a visit home I said he would play for England one day. He showed class and impressed me that much.

The fact he was born in Blunderland doesn't necessarily make him a Mackem, there are people born in Newcastle who are "Mackems"

But you are right about his consistancy though, he never really reached the full potential he had shown as a young lad.

Comparing the early stages of their careers I think Howey was better. However, I don't think he fulfilled his potential (because of injuries and whatnot) and I thnk Taylor will become a better player than Howey did because of this.

Have to agree with that. He was a crap CF...but an awesome CB. Injures ruined his career ala Robbie Elliott. Im a BIG Taylo fan but Howey was great.

Howey was undone by his lack of physical strength and injury weakness - Taylor has this physical advantage but not sure whether he has Howeys class - needs to stop the prancing horse routines

 

Taylor needs brought along by an experienced defensive partner

 

As for being a mackem - so what - Paul Bracewell and Barry Venison both had lengthy stints for the scum and were nothing short of magnificent playing for us

Post injury he was gash. Lost ALL of his pace. Was a v.good player beforehand though.

I really rated Howey as a CB, looked like he was going to be a top class defender who was pretty fast and composed, but also strong and good in the air.

 

Then he got the injuries and never recovered and wasn't close to the same player again which was a shame.

 

Taylor has been up and down and still has a lot of work to do but hopefully we can end up with a good centreback who delivers consistent performances.
