The People says Xavier left Middlesbrough last week with his sights set on the US or Saudi Arabia and a final pay day. But the Magpies have stolen in to pick up the 34-year-old Portuguese defender ahead of rivals Sunderland, who have also been keen on the former Everton defender. Would not be impressed (much like with Sib) but if we got some good players to play ahead of him I suppose he would pad out the squad a bit. Still, on the subject of older players like Fowler and Xavier, Sam's managed to squeeze an extra season or two out of other players before, no reason why he couldn't do it here as well to utilize a couple of players to pad out the squad.
