Scottish Mag 3
Alan Curbishley is giving no credence to rumours which have suggested Sheffield United and Wigan could collude in order to get West Ham relegated. The Hammers have their fate in their own hands on the final day of the season, but they face no easy task as their opponents are Premiership champions Manchester United at Old Trafford. A defeat for West Ham and a narrow win for Wigan at Sheffield United would send The Hammers down to the Championship. Curbishley is aware of the conspiracy theory, but does not feel any collusion will take place. "I keep hearing all these conspiracy theories that if it's not going so well for West Ham at Old Trafford then Sheffield United can relax and if Wigan get the result [they could stay up]," said Curbishley. "But everyone has to be prepared to go into any game to win it. "You can't go into any game thinking you just turn it on when it goes against you." Craig 6703
If Wigan or Sheff Utd go down, it's because they've been shite, not because West Ham have played Tevez. Dave Whelan wouldn't be saying a word if Wigan had had a season like last year. I'm hoping they do sink, you never know, Leighton Baines may well end up at SJP! Tevez (even when he couldn't score) has been one of West Ham's best players all season and major factor in them picking up points that could well see them stay up. I'm not saying that if either of the other two go down it's not their own fault bacause it is (I think the whole Tevez thing is a farce anyway, West Ham weren't trying to cheat they have just been caught out making a cock up of the two signings) but if Tevez hadn't been playing West Ham might have struggled more! Don't agree, yes they've been shite but without Tevez West Ham would have been more shite Fine was laughable, should have lost points, that's what usually happens in leagues when an ineligible player is fielded. Mind you my judgement may be clouded by the fact I hate fucking West Ham

In all honestly the Tevez thing is just the eventual result of all the money and agent power in football these days. West Ham, as such, is pretty irrelevant in it really. Craig 6703
Everyone was raising eyebrows back in August when West Ham signed them. We all knew they weren't owned by the club and that there was something not quite right but was anything said back then?? Was it fuck! Wigan (in particular) are shitting themselves at the thought of relegation and see this as an escape clause. If they'd been vociferous from when the players signed, then they'd get some sympathy but their drive in all this is to avoid relegation, NOT to correct a wrong-doing. Even so, I think at this point of the season, a fine was the only thing that could be considered. They could still be relegated regardless of no points deficit so that would have rendered the penalty ridiculous. The hearing and penalty should have been looked into either 6 months ago or after the season ended (as was the case with Swindon all those years ago). What we have now is a situation where the football is not doing the talking - not good! West Ham fucked up, they admitted to it and an independent commission (not the FA) decided that the fine was the way to go. If Wigan (and any other team) have an issue with that, they should raise a civil case against the commission but there's no way it'd have been resolved before the end of the season. Super_Steve_Howey 0
Whelan has now changed tack - he's now only bothered as to whether Tevez was an eligible player on the match they played Wigan, coincidentally straight after the West Ham fine. Fair point in my opinion.
