Fop 1
SSN currently reporting that Gerard Houllier is 'very' interested in the vacant managers job at newcastle. Too late he'll have to wait till this time next year for his chance.

Norbert Colon 0
He is a very astute operator i think in the mould of Sir Bob and even though it would never happen i reckon it is shortsighted and ignorant to dismiss him out of hand

khay 10
Is this not the last year of his contract as well? So would not cost us anything.
Norbert Colon 0
No - I presumed it would never happen because Shepherd is in love with Allardyce and it is a done deal i wasn't dismissing houllier as a quality coach who could do a good job
Gemmill 44498
I'd take any of the three tbh - Eriksson, Houllier or Allardyce.
ewerk 30371
Houllier would certainly be a contender in light of his achievements at Lyon and Eriksson would certainly have the profile to attract top class players, I really hope Shepherd hasn't settled on Allardyce without first at least casting a glance at the alternatives. khay 10
BBC got Sven's Agent down as saying his would like to talk to us. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ted/6638527.stm

khay 10
There is a couple Lyon players I would not mind Houllier taking with him.
Tom 14011
My only fear regarding Sven is £££ tbh
ewerk 30371
Well who wouldn't be interested in the "8th biggest job in world football"?
Norbert Colon 0
The quality of players that Sven could attract could see us mount a serious challenge to the top four - plus Owen wouldn't leave
ewerk 30371
Aye but Sven wouldn't come cheap and would be demanding much more than the £15m transfer kitty rumoured to be guaranteed to Allardyce.
AgentFox 0
Thats the ticket Sven has a huge contact list Sam has a huge bung list. (wait for jokes to come involving the word huge)
carlisle6789 0
I would have Houllier he's won loads of trophies at Liverpool and Lyon
Fop 1
I suppose both Eriksson and Houllier might be more attractive for Owen as well.
Tom 14011
I think Sven might attract too much media attention which is not really what we need, perhaps it would be better to get the club sorted before thinking of a world class manager who could perhaps paste over the cracks but not fix our deeper problems. Ketsbaia 0
I'd rather have them both than Allardyce but i'd be suprised if we didn't get Big Sam now.
Norbert Colon 0
Might be a bit of a circus like with Sven -but it just shows you the class of people we can still attract - i think we do ourselves down
Gemmill 44498
Might be a bit of a circus like with Sven -but it just shows you the class of people we can still attract - i think we do ourselves down Sven's jobless and desperate tbh. Although if true about Houllier, I'm surprised and impressed that we can still attract someone like him. Having said that, the report on SSN is saying that their source for the story is The Chronicle. Which is no sort of source to be taken seriously.
