Emre 0
Just scrolled upon this on SSN site Fernando Torres was one of Newcastle United's back-up options if they failed to land top target Michael Owen, it has been revealed. Agent Francis Martin has told Marca that the Spanish wonder-kid was another of The Magpies' ambitious targets as the North East outfit look to claw their way up the Premiership table. Torres is one of the most precocious talents in European football and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is known to be a huge admirer of his skills. "It is certain that Newcastle were willing to pay €38 million for Fernando Torres in a single payment," said Martin. "But they [Atletico] said that the player is not for sale. "Newcastle shuffled two options, that of Torres and that of Owen. "They thought that the Atletico Madrid forward was a great signing, bearing in mind that [Albert] Luque is in the team." Torres is one of the most sought-after players in Spain and would have made an interesting alternative had Owen not clinched a four-year switch to Tyneside. Not a bad back up

TheInspiration 1
Even if Torres may be more of a "wonderkid" and has more skills to his game than Owen, I'd still think Owen would score more goals and would be more ideal for a club like us. Gemmill 46019
That Marcotti bellend on Talksport reckons we could have bid whatever we wanted but would still have had no chance......although I felt the same three days ago about Michael Owen.
